When you are/were job searching....
and you received phone calls from recruiting agencies, did you reply/go to see them?
I just reworked my resume a bit and I received 5 calls today, all from recruiting agencies.
Would it be stupid to just not call them back? In the past they have been a complete waste of time for me.
I am not aggressively hunting at this point so I am not desperate.

it is not bad if you don;t call them back-- I would call the ones back that seem promising, becuase you never know what kinds of jobs they have-- but some are just total crap.
If you are worried about being "professional"-- you don't need to call these people back.

Re: When you are/were job searching....
It cant hurt to call them back, but from past experience, I get very fustrated with them.
Some recruiters are more specific than others. If one specializes in your field, or the field you are interested in, I would be more inclined to call them back.

Re: When you are/were job searching....
As a recruiter, I'd call them back and ask them about the position they have that they called you about. Some agency's will have you come in, interview, test etc. wasting your time and just putting you in the database.
I think that is a waist of time. I don't recruit like that, well I don't have positions that require me to recruit like that.
There are a lot of company's that only deal with agency's. Also even if you can apply with a company yourself, a recruiter can get your resume directly to the managers.
So, Call them back if they just pressure you to come in and meet with them. Put them off and consider "registering" at a later time. If they tell you about a position they have available, where it is etc. It could be a great opportunity.
Unfortunately, you can go threw a few before you get to someone you like. It's in a recruiters best interest to submit you and get you hired. That's how we make our money.
A good question is also to ask if the position they have is Temp, Temp to Perm or Perm/Direct Hire. If you have any questions let me know.

I never had luck with recruiting agencies - they were a waste of time
but my friend had luck - she is in finance
so maybe it depends on the field
