When you give someone tickets as a gift
Do you think about who they might bring?
I know this is weird. But a really good friend of mine is turning 30 right around christmas, so I was thinking as a combined goft to get her tickets to see avenue Q. Now, of course I have to get her 2.
What's weird is I know, if I were buying tickets for her and she had a bf, she'd bring her bf, if I were buying tickets for something like that for a single girlfriend by myself, she'd probably bring me.
Is it presumptuous or thoughtful to buy 3, give her one, and all g and treat her to a night out.
I don't want it to be a gift for us. I mean I'd rather not spend the money on us to see soething we've already seen, but I also don't want to put her in an awkward position where she feels like she wants to bring one of us and cant bring both. (I don't mind at all if she chooses to bring someone else)..
Does that make any sense at all?>
ETA: The three of us hang out all the time. She's friends with both of us. the three of us go out to dinner, etc all the time. The reason i think2 could be weird is because I know she's want both of us to come

Re: When you give someone tickets as a gift
I'll have to think about it and talk to FH.
I think it means more to have a night out together to celebrate her birthday, but it can get pricey with 3 show tickets and then dinner.
Then again you only turn 30 once

Re: When you give someone tickets as a gift
I think you should just get her two tickets and let her bring whoemver she wants. I know Ticketmaster tickets do not expire, I dont know if the tickets you bought will? If they dont, I would give them to her and let her bring a boyfriend, a girlfriend or even a family member.
If she wants to use the extra ticket and bring you, then so be it. But I wouldnt be feel forced to buy all 3 or 4 for that matter.

Re: When you give someone tickets as a gift
If I am understanding correctly, you AND your FH would be bringing her if you get the 3 tickets? To be honest, I dont know many single people that would want to tag along with an engaged couple to dinner and a show. If I were you, I would get her one ticket, and the two of you go without FH. Then you can take her out to dinner as well.

Me personally, I would give her a tixx and have your tixx and make it a ladies night out! I think its a thoughtful gift and you can both enjoy it since she doesnt have a boyfriend at the current time.

When I was single, I was not a fan of doing this type of thing with a couple. I always felt like a third wheel. I also think buying 3 tickets and bringing your FH seems like you guys want a night out together and her birthday was the reason to do it.

Re: When you give someone tickets as a gift
I should mention that the 3 of us hang out ALL the time.
We're like 3 stooges. HAHA
So it wouldn't be weird at all for us to take her out together.
I guess the question is, do we get her the tickets, or do we take her out?

You buy her two tickets and let her take who she wants. It should be a gift, not an obligation.

I know it sounds insane. Just get her the 2 tickets and call it a day, right?
But she's the kind of person who would feel guilty that she couldn;t take both of us. That's what I meant to say about putting her in an awkward position.

Yeah! I totally don't want to make it an obligation at all. I really just want her to see the show!

I agree - skip the tickets and either get her something else or just take her out for a fun night. The tickets seems to make it awkward.

Get her two tickets and tell her to take someone who HASN'T seen the show yet. Then the money you saved by not buying a 3rd ticket use to take her out to dinner another night.
