When you order an item online, when does your credit card get charged?

For the first time ever, my card was charged immediately after I placed an order. Then, I got an email saying my item would ship in 4 weeks.

It's been 2 weeks and I just received an email saying my order was cancelled and a refund will be issued.

My CC statement just closed out for the month, so now I'm pizzed because that charge is on there and the credit won't show up until next month.

Isn't the norm with online ordering for a person's card to not be charged until the item is actually shipped?

I have only been charged when the order has shipped.

That is strange that it was charged when the order was placed.

I think it depends on the individual company. I have been charged immediately and upon shipping.

I too, have only been charged when the order was shipped.

In my experience they don't charge me till they ship it.
