When you send an email, do you expect a reply?

I am trying to get better with emailing updates on DS, especially to MIL (she lives OOT)

About a month or so ago, I got "in trouble" with MIL because I didn't call when DS had RSV. I was sick also, DH was OOT on business for the week, I was running around to Drs, I just never thought to call until things calmed down. I understood why she was upset, she lives an hour away and she only sees DS about once a month.

Sooo, I am making an effort to send her emails and updates, I have sent her 3 emails since then with pictures, updates etc. and I haven't gotten any reply. I'm a little annoyed, but maybe this is the norm - although one email really needed a reply because I was inviting them to Easter.

When you send emails to your ILs, so you get a reply?

ETA: MIL is on the computer everyday at work, so she is getting them.

I don't email my MIL and don't even want her having my email address Chat Icon Sorry I know that doesn't answer your question. I would think a courtesy reply would be the very least to expectChat Icon

I do mass email updates to my family and DH's family a lot.

If it is just an update, no. If there is a question or something that would require a response, yes.

Chat Icon I sent pics EVERYDAY and a video once a week. My mother and father check daily for this email. My mother will respond twice a week, but call almost every night. Lately, its comments about a stork bite looking lighter everyday.Chat Icon
my father will send a sentence everyday.

since this is going out, i copy my siblings, some inlaws.

no one every responds. i don't know if pics even get looked at anymore. I have sent out roughly 10,000Chat Icon

i use to think it was weird...no replies, but what are they going to say each time?

Thanks guys, maybe it is a generation thing or maybe she is just weird Chat Icon I'll keep sending them, I don't want her to feel that she isn't involved and I am really not a phone person.

It dependsChat Icon

If it is just pics and updates, I don't expect a response, if it is a "chatty" email, I do, does that make sense?

Re: When you send an email, do you expect a reply?

I have made an attempt to e-mail MIL because she lives in Poland and it is easier to e-mail than find the right time to call. Sometimes she responds, sometimes she doesn't. I am not heartbroken when she doesn't, though, because I know that no one can ever say I didn't make the effort.

As for responses in general, I kind of get depressed when people don't write back. Family, friends, coworkers. If I send you an e-mail and you don't write back I get annoyed and a little sad and feel rejected. Pathetic, but yes...Chat Icon

MIL does this exact thing to me. I expect a reply, yes, and I get annoyed when I don't get one.
