when you switch from formula to milk and when did you start using a cup and few more Q?

-Did you wait till they were 12 months or did you give it to dc before?
-Did you replace formula with milk all at once or did you cut down slowly?
-When did you start using a cup and how did you do it?
-How much milk is /was your DC having at 10,11,12 months?

DS is goign to be 11 months in a few days. I plan on waiting until he see's the Dr in August to take him off of Formula, and to introduce the milk.
He is eating table food, and drinking water, but he is loosing interest in baby food- therefore not eating as much in one sitting as he was a few months ago.
So for me, i will wait until he is around 14 months- get the go from the ped.
and give him milk in his bottle probably in the AM and PM (wake up and bed bottle) and in a cup during the day.
when i give him a bottle at night, it actually reminds me to sit down and hold him for a few minutes, so its good for both of us.

ETA- after the intruction of milk the bottles will be weaned- probably by the new year.

We waited to the ped for his ped visit. 12 month check-up. It was yesterday.

He told us whole milk.
Start with 1/4 whole milk 2 and 3/4 formula
then 1/2 and 1/2
then 3/4 whole milk and 1/4 formula
working your way up to just whole milk over time.

NEVER more than 32 oz per day.

Usually 14-24 oz per day


We started the sippy cup a while ago. He will take half of his milk with it and refuse it. So I switch to the bottle. I just keep introducing the sippy cup.

We switched at 11 1/2 months per peds instructions. Started out by giving one bottle a day for three days, then two bottles a day for three days, etc. until totally on whole milk. I started giving the sippy cup at 6 months, but DS didn't use it until around 10 months or so and just for water during meals. Now, at 14 months, he gets his one bottle a day (morning) and the rest are sippy cups. He's not a big milk drinker, but ped said as long as he's getting at least 16 ounces total of fluide milk/water/juice he's OK. I think we just make that.

DS took to the Take and Toss sippy cups the best. He couldn't get anything out of the valved cups. He still uses the Take adn Toss. They work best for us.

We switched to whole milk when DS was 11 months old.

We totally replaced formula with whole milk all at once.

We tried DS with a sippy cup at 6 months and then again at 9 months old and he did not want anything to do it. When he was 13 months old he took to it right away.

When we started milk at 11 months old he was drinking 16 - 21 ozs a day.

The game plan was to slowly transition but DH misunderstood me when I asked him to make the bottle and gave Lucas all milk...there was no problem so we just went cold turkey.

Lucas has been using a sippy cup since about 7 months - got better at 9/10 months though so I say that is the real time. I forced it on him for juice and cut one bottle to replace it.

Wasn't even that long ago and I have pretty much forgotten. I remember I want to say he was down to about 20 oz of fomula at 10 months then down to 16-18oz at 11 months. 12 months he moved to whole milk and gets anywhere from 12 - 16 oz per day - one sippy cup and one bottle. Next week we ditch the last bottle.

DS is going to be a year in 3 days and has been on only sippy cup for the past 2-3 weeks. He was getting 4 bottles a day, but when i introduced the sippy at around 7-8 months, he really took to it. So i gave it to him for all his formula feedings except i was still giving him the bottle for his last feeding. Then a couple weeks ago i gave him the formula in the sippy for his last feeding and he was fine. I still hold him for that one (the other three he sits on the couch)...i think that was what was keeping me form completely transitioning him off the bottle as i didnt want to give it up LOL. But now i know its OK to still hold him when he's drinking his last sippy for the night.

Our dr also said start milk at a year- begin with 1/4 of the sippy cup milk, the rest formula and slowly work up to all milk (16-20 ounces a day). However, DS had a reaction to something this past weekend and now he is going for allergy testing on saturday. So i am waiting to begin milk till i know what caused the allergy.

I started at about 11 and 1/2 months

-Did you replace formula with milk all at once or did you cut down slowly? I made all bottles with half water, half milk and then powdered formula for about 1 week or so, then switched to all milk and formula for a few days...

-When did you start using a cup and how did you do it?

Still using bottles for milk..cups during the day for water...


-How much milk is /was your DC having at 10,11,12 months?

My peds recomendation for any age is no more then 16 oz's of milk a day

-Did you replace formula with milk all at once or did you cut down slowly? I started with half formula half milk then slowly took one bottle of formula away. DS took to milk well with no problems so far.

-When did you start using a cup and how did you do it? I started using sippy cups when he was like 7 months for water and juice but he didnt like it. I took him off bottles toally at 11 months. He only gets one bottle which is at night.
