When your printer or copier needs a new cartridge
would you buy a compatible package?
For instance, I have a personal copier. A new cartridge is $110 but a compatible one is $40.

I've bought the compatible ones before and did not have a good experience. It leaked, ran, light spots, annoying.....id spend the extra money and save yourself the aggravation 
That's just me though, maybe someone else has had a better experience.

Ditto. However, I've tried out various "off-brand" inks and toners over the years for various printers, and have various levels of non-success. The refills are definitely not worth it, and most of the compatible cartridges aren't very good. However, I haven't tried a compatible cartridge in years, so it's possible they've improved.
