When you're a guest at a wedding and the couple gets married in a church...
do you wear a less formal dress to the church, and then change into a more formal dress for the reception? assuming the church is a saturday afternoon, and the reception is saturday evening
i've never done this, but i've noticed more and more people doing this.
how about you?

it all depends on the time frame
i had a friend who had a 3 hour break inbetween and her wedding was black tie, so i went home and changed outfits.

depends on time frame and location.
if the church is close to my house and there's ample time in between, I definitely wear 2 outfits. ESPECIALLY if the church is early (like 1pm for a 7pm reception)

No, I ususally don't have as much time between as I think I will, or I am not close enoguht to my home or hotel.
People did that at mine though. I think I had a 4pm ceremony in Hicksville & 7pm reception in Jericho.
I will wear a sweater, jacket, or wrap over my dress though to tone it down a little for church though.

I wear something more casual, then change.
I can't be all dolled up for that long LOL.
even if I miss most of the cocktail hour, I will go home to change

I dont feel that the gowns I wear for weddings are appropriate for church. I will usually wear dress pants or a skirt to the church and then change into the gown later.

I never have the option- we are never at weddings near our house
all of our friends live in suffolk and we live in Queens
I never get to go home and change

Depends on the situation. If there is an enormous gap (a pet peeve of mine), they I do. What I don't like it where people where way too casual clothing to the church. I've seen people where Jeans, etc. I don't go that causal. I'll wear skirt/pants and a nice sweater or top to the church and change into a cocktail dress for the reception.

I'll take casual over hoochie any day. I hate seeing so much skin at church (boobage)

I agree with that too! That's why I will change in between if there is a big gap. If the gap is not big, I throw a shawl over my dress-though of course my cocktail dresses are NOT hoochie, just a little too revealing for my conservative church standards
