where can get "cheap" sand to install pavers?
They are like $4 per small bags at HD or Lowe's. I need A LOT of them. But not like a half ton delivered. KWIM?

If you're not in a time crunch, you can monitor the Craigslist free sections, and wait until someone is giving away tons (literally) of sand, usually from inground pools.
That's what I'm planning on doing, since I want to do a bunch of landscaping projects.

we bought ours at lowes but used the 10% of coupon from the movers packs at the Post Office

the pool store, DH just bought a lot of it for a new filter and it wasn't expensive. he went to Leslies

There's actually a sand store out in speonk - not sure where you are located
It's called "Hampton Sand Corp"
