Where can I buy Vanilla Beans?
Need them for the cupcake recipe suggested but don't recall ever seeing them anywhere. DS' bday is soon!

I think I've seen them/gotten them in the regular supermarket, like with the McCormick spices (maybe the gourmet line). They come in a regular spice bottle of vanilla bean pods, and then you spit the pods open and scrape the seeds out. They should be easy to find -- you shouldn't have to go to a specialty store for them! (They are an expensive ingredient, though!)
If they are not a key component of the recipe (i.e., you are not making fresh vanilla bean cupcakes), I would probably consider subbing in good vanilla extract (if that's something you already have on hand).

I've bought them at King Kullen and Wild by Nature in the spice aisle. Depending on the brand, they look like they're packaged in either regular spice bottles or long test tubes.

I get them off Amazon. I got 100 beans for $50. That's 50 cents each. I Got Tahitian and Madagascan. I then made about 1.5 liters of vanilla extract. 750 ml of Tahitian and 750 ml of Madagascan. They will make great Xmas gifts for bakers. Also vanilla extract isn't too easy to find here and then it's crazy expensive when I do find it. With the left over beans, I vacuum sealed them.

 This is the way to go! We buy 1/2 a pound on amazon for about $30. We make our own coffee creamer and vanilla extract. I also make some in the summer for Christmas. This is the cheapest way I found to have real vanilla.

Thanks everyone. I did see great prices on Amazon but waited too long and couldn't get them in time.
Bought some at Trader Joe's - 2 for $3.99. I saw some at Waldbaums also but it was 2 beans for $17.49
