Where can I rent equip. to clean a carpet?
Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know of a company besides Stanley Steemer that does this?

Yup! Actually, that's right around the corner from me, I'll check there. We're trying to do this for as little as possible because the carpet in our apt. is a mess, and if we don't clean it, they'll charge us for replacing it which is much more expensive then us getting it cleaned or doing it ourselves.
ETA: And I apologize because I just realized I posted this on the wrong board
