Looking to go somewhere within driving distance. Only looking to go for a couple nights?
I have a 6 and 9 year old.

So Wildwood has the Boardwalk with all the shops, junk food, rides etc. It's fun for a day or night. Cape May is a little drive away- not far- they have ghost tours, trolley tours, mini golf, shops, and the Cape May Zoo is awesome and free- they have a playground there too that I believe reopened last month. You can also rent surry bikes or regular bikes and I think there is a bay somewhere where you can rent Kayaks or paddleboards. Haven't done that yet though Also- the place we stay in Wildwood (actually Diamond Beach) has a great pool with pool service, a private beach with service, a beach bar/restaurant outside on the sand with live music etc

Icona Diamond Beach. They have an Icona Cape May too Pricey but to me, the best hotels in the area because they are modern, renovated and super super clean. They also have a more resort, 5 star feel

We went to fire island. It was literally us, on the beach and empty for about a mile in either direction. It was amazing. We went a week ago. We went kayaking in Oyster Bay. You can rent them. It was a lot of fun.

Which part of Fire Island did you go to? Just for the day? family friends own a home on the island so we stayed with them. My parents arranged it so I am not sure. But the homes have boardwalks between them. We took the Davis Park ferry and their home is one block away on the ocean.

Where can we go for a quick getaway?
My friend went to Wildwood recently and said it was crowded and no one was wearing masks or social distancing. So, if that concerns you, I wouldn't go. I do normally like Wildwood though because my kids like the rides. How about the Catskills? I went to Kaaterskill Falls recently and it was nice. We stayed at the Roxbury which was super cool. We also stopped at Mohonk which is is gorgeous! They offer day passes there.

Re: Where can we go for a quick getaway?
I would go to Ocean City, NJ. Family friendly and less crazy then Wildwood. Plus if your interested in exploring Wildwood its literally the next town so short drive. Lots to do in the boardwalk. If your kids are girls, they have a mermaid salon, beaches are immaculate, and lots of shopping and food places.

Re: Where can we go for a quick getaway?
We were supposed to go to Jersey this weekend for a tournament, but was cancelled by coach, anyway hotel told me restaurants were all take out only, so I would call ahead first.

Re: Where can we go for a quick getaway?
I would not go to the Jersey Shore right now unless you rent a house out of the populated and tourist areas. Go Airbnb by a lake in the the Catskills, Poconos, Ulster county(Lake Taghkanic has a nice sandy beach). You can go to tons of kid friendly wineries and breweries in those areas as well of farms to pick fresh vegetables.

I'm here now and am currently in a restaurant. Outdoor dining only still here, but the restaurants are jumping

Nell, have you ever been to/heard of the Le Voyageur Motel in wildwood? It's the top rated one in wildwood, has a pool, on the beach, and it looks like I can get a suite with kitchenette for a great price. Seems like walking distance to the boardwalk too. Wasn't sure if you've heard of it?

No I don't know that one. There are so many there though. We staynin Diamond Beach which is a short drive from Wildwood. I like it because it's quieter and more residential but a short drive from the action. But if Trip Advisor gives it a good rating I'd go for it. I live and die by user reviews on there!

Yes! Cape May zoo is a short drive from Wildwood. It's free to get in- they do ask for a donation but it's not mandatory and you can give whatever you want. They have a ton of animals and exhibits and it's a nice wooded area to walk around. They also have some small rides for young kids and they have a big playground that I believe is open now. It's a good way to spend half a day
