It's time to do both bathrooms. I have been waiting long enough.

Did you find your fixture, bathtub, sink first and then contacted a contractor?

We hired our contractor and then picked out our fixtures. Some of the stuff (like the tub) was not carried in stock and needed to be special ordered so just make sure you order it asap. We just finished both our BRs. It's a big project. Good luck with yours!

I "shopped" online then ordered through the local plumbing supply house (Sayville Plumbing) since we know someone there and I could trust them to give me a good price and also order all the parts. When you shop online for faucets, showerheads, etc. the prices sound good but you need to make sure you order everything you need to hook it all up. Lots of the faucets had spouts, handles, and the "underneath" attachments all separate. Most of the stuff ended up being special order for things like tubs, sinks, etc. Figure 4 - 6 weeks on tubs and sinks.

My husband is in the business

He said usually a good contractor will help you design the bathroom and pick everything out with you......

They often get discounts on the supplies at places or can tell you where to go..

My husband is in the business as well so we go straight to AF Plumbing in Holtsville. I would definitely go to a plumbing suppy place rather than HD or Lowes--the quality is completely different.

We are buying as we go. Before we started I started a folder on my computer of what I liked. I then shared some of the ideas with my contractor and he advised me what worked best for us and then sending us to places to possibly buy them. We are using blackman for the most part, and we got our clawfoot tub and fixtures through signaturehardware.com because the prices were so good and they had a huge selection of unique stuff.

I agree about not going to lowes/HD. We picked up a drain while we were there looking at paint and left it for our plumber. He refused to put it in because it was such poor quality. He got us a different one through blackman. Last thing you need is drain problems after you put the whole bathroom together.

Where's a good place to pick up the tiles, etc. if we were to renovate the bathroom ourselves?
