Where do you keep your puppy's crate
Where is the puppy's crate and does he/she do well at night? My 9 week old puppy's crate is in the kitchen. We hang at their mostly and she loves to nap in it. We only had her a week so I know it's early but she's had a few bad nights of really crying. DH walks her last at 11pm and then puts her in the crate at night. Her last meal is around 7 for food or water so shouldn't be a problem but the last 3 nights she really is whining louder and there's a tiny poop in the crate. We have the divider so she doesn't have much room. Don't know what we're doing wrong. I hear people either have do the kitchen or in the bedroom. Just wondering if she'd do better in the bedroom in the crate knowing we're there or just stick to our guns and don't back track

Hmm I'm surprised she pooped in there considering how late the last walk is and you have the divider up. It might have just been a fluke. We always kept our dog crated in the living room, but we never crated overnight. It was more for when we were out. I'd probably keep it in the kitchen- consistency is always key with puppies. Good luck- I know that whimpering is like torture!

Re: Where do you keep your puppy's crate
During the day when we were out, we had it in our living room...
At night when the pup would whine...I tried to just let them whine it out, but DH at the time got up super early, so we started bringing the crate in the bedroom... Once they could see us, they were fine.

Where do you keep your puppy's crate
We had 2 crates when she was young. One in the living room we let her in during the day and one in bedroom she slept in at night. The one in our room had a cover on it to make it really dark for her. At 9 weeks we were still getting up around 2 am to let her out to use the bathroom. That stopped around 12-13 weeks.

Re: Where do you keep your puppy's crate
We have ours in our foyer which is not too far from our bedroom door. The crate is huge so I needed a big space and out of the way. I didnt want the puppy in our bedroom; for many reasons nor did I want him getting used to it.
He is fine there. I think you are pretty much doing everything you are supposed to. But at 9 weeks; your puppy most likely isnt going to sleep thru the whole night yet. Their bladders are still tiny. I had to get up sometimes twice during the night to let him out; on the leash. (We were training him to go outside).
I think when he was about three months; he started sleeping thru the night.
Also, do you have anything in the crate with him? A bed? A blanket? Stuffed animal? You want him to feel cozy too while he/she is in there. I also heard wonders of a small "ticking" clock and wrap it in a towel. That also gives them comfort at night.

Re: Where do you keep your puppy's crate
In the living room , down 6 steps. The dog can hear us at night. My husband slept on the couch the first few nights and then would sleep an hour or 2 and come upstairs. It was tough since she would also poop in her crate at night around 4 am. Eventually she got it and I'm glad we never brought her up to our room.
