What parts of Nassau are you looking in? More west? More east? South? North?

Hmmm....well it really depends on what area you want. When do you want to move? Check Newsday.com to check out what's available. You looking for April 1st move in date?

Not sure when...we are getting married in July and both still live at home...we are just beginning to look.
Last year we were looking at houses...but that went out the window when I changed jobs

We found ours through craigslist.... well, sort of. It put us in touch with a realtor who showed us our apartment. Have you looked in the local pennysaver? Thats helpful in Suffolk, I am not sure if there is one for Nassau as well? NY times also has a lot of listings.

You can try this site too, it has most of the pennysavers and newsday listings as well as others.

Re: Where should I look for an apartment??
Also the pennysaver-be careful with the realtors because you usually have to pay a 1 month rent fee to them. There is a Pennysaver office in the Syosset Bethpage area. You can call them and find out when the new issues come out and go to the office and get all different areas. I have found a lot of apartments this way. I think they come out on Tuesday but call to check and get directions. Good luck

Re: Where should I look for an apartment??
This is a copy of a similar post I answered on LIW... I live in Franklin Square...GREAT neighborhood!
"My recommedation is to rent LEGAL! We learned the hard way and were "evicted" 4 mths prior to our wedding. We did not need the extra stress. We vowed to only rent legal apts and we found the BEST apt we could ever find. My other recommendation is to check the pennysavers and hometown newspapers too. I noticed our apt was only listed in the hometown newspaper...not Newsday, Craigs List, etc. They originally wanted to list with a realtor friend, but the friend steered them to doing it in the local pennysaver type paper for a couple of reasons...One with realtor fees...the people would have to shell out a lot of money, also the most important one was they wanted a local nice couple (like yourselves)...they didn't want to be bothered with the Section 8 calls, etc. We were truly blessed with this apt. Our landlords in such a short time became family. Don't give up...you are a landlords dream of a tenant and they will be blessed to have you!"
