The boxes are too small - we checked out the local delis and liquor stores.

Re: Where to buy moving boxes?

you could try costco....

OR call some local moving companies - most sell brand new boxes, some even sell used boxes (cheaper)

Re: Where to buy moving boxes?

I used to wait till people in my building got fresh direct and then I would take all the boxes

or take any boxes that were about to be recycled

I had to buy some for my last move and it got to be really expensive- staples cost around $5 a box!

Not sure where you are - but there is a box 'store' in Commack, on the north service road of the LIE. There is a little lineup of shops, and one of the shops sells a million different sizes and types of boxes. From what I remember they were pretty reasonable.

I was going to suggest that.

I know at Morgan Stanley employees are entitled to moving supplies at no cost. You should ask.

Yep try Costco or a Supermarket... They give them to you for free usually.

Also, if you want- you can just buy them at Uhaul.

Re: Where to buy moving boxes?

you might have luck with Craigstlist too-- people list moving supplies pretty often (most times its pretty cheap or free- they jsut want to get rid of it b/c they moved already) Chat Icon

Re: Where to buy moving boxes?

I didn't really compare prices, but the UHaul store had a sign comparing their prices with other large stores. The main reason we just bought a bunch of boxes at UHaul was b/c they have a buyback guarantee. They'll buy back (at 100%) any boxes that you don't use (provided you have a receipt).

Re: Where to buy moving boxes?

I got them from my company last time I moved..

In the end I did have to buy a few extra and got them at Staples along with a giant roll of bubble wrap.

they're our official movers...when my old group moved downtown...i "took" 3 and bought them home..but I can only take a few at a time b/c it's:
1. obvious and i have to sign them out of the building
2. HEAVY! so i have to drive in....

My friend is moving, asked me to help on Monday, so I want to go somewhere that I can buy them, shove them in the car and be on my way - ie: no carrying on my part.

Re: Where to buy moving boxes?

Sometimes I have gotten boxes from bookstores - especially small ones - Barnes and Noble may have policies about boxes, but a small independent book store may give you some - there is one right near me....

Do you remember the exact name of the place? I am in Hauppauge and that would be super convenient.

Re: Where to buy moving boxes?

When I moved out of NYC we got some of our boxes at a storage facility on 1st ave and like 62nd st. It's right near the bed, bath and beyond and the movie theater.
