Where to donate furniture?
We have a beautiful dining room table and china to give away, and NO ONE will take it. St. Vincent De Paul wants a dresser or a couch with is, same with partnership for the homeless. I don't get why a dining room set is not enough.
Any other ideas?

Re: Where to donate furniture?
Did you try Salvation Army?
If you don't care about the tax write off, you could list it on Craigs list or freecycle and I am sure someone would take it.

Re: Where to donate furniture?
Yeah we were thinking of selling it (cheap) or giving it away, if we can;t donate it to the poor. It wasn't for a tax write off, we just hope someone can get use out of it. It's very nice, but it's bigger than the apartment

Re: Where to donate furniture?
When we moved and watned to donate furniture it was the hardest thing to do.
We lived on a 3rd story walk up and their are so many rules with donating furnitre.
I wanted to donate 2 end tables, a coffee table, a few chairs and 2 night stands.
I would have to carry every single item down and the place I would donate too would pick it up sometime between 9 - 5. Becuase of "insurance" and "liability" the drivers just pick up the items. Plus 3rd floor walk up they would not even try to carry so much as a lamp. And they dont have to accept it. If it is not in near perfect condition they wont take it.
As much as donating furniture would be a good thing, it's all too much of a hassle.
I would go with craigs list or something.

Re: Where to donate furniture?
I agree with Mel...donating furniture is a pain!! we had some stuff to donate and put it out for the Big Bros/Sisters and they only picked up some of it...so the rest went to the curb for garbage. it was a shame that this stuff went in the garbage...
Maybe a local church will take it

Re: Where to donate furniture?
Thanks. it really looks like it won't happen. There's an LIFer who may want it, so Im gonna take pics and start there. If not, craigslist, or bulk garbage day..it's a shame if I have to toss it, because it's really nice and expensive and in good condition.

If your neighborhood is anything like ours once you put it out within mins to an hour it's gone. Someone picks it up.

Re: Where to donate furniture?
In Queens I'm sure they would, but FH lives on a really quiet street.
If no one wants it from LIF, maybe I can use it as an excuse to have a yard sale and hopefully get FH to get rid of some of his crap.
I resolved to give away my Barbie dream house too. He has to give something up..LOL
