Re: Where to stay in Disney?
That's a really broad question since there are so many different options for so many different budgets. How much are you looking to spend?
We have stayed at the Yacht Club (a deluxe) and while it wasn't on the monorail, you can take the boat to MGM and Epcot or walk to either. Their pool is AWESOME too! It's sandy bottom and it just makes a very relaxing day at the resort. Not to mention it's on the Boardwalk and there is so much to do. We rented the bikes and put DS in the basket when he was little. It was so freaking cute!
We have also stayed at the value resorts which were fine and my son likes those better since everything is larger than life at them!
www.allearsnet.com has pictures of all of the resorts.

Re: Where to stay in Disney?
This is a tough question b.c there are so many varibles!
Things that might affect where you want to stay: Budget Traveling with young children will you have a car? what park do you want to be near? what is your personal style.
The nice thing about WDW is there is a hotel for almost everyone.
As I said in my FM if you tell me what you are looking for I can help narrow down some choices for you.

Re: Where to stay in Disney?
My cousin has stayed more than once at the Beach Club with his family (they have 3 little girls). I think that's what it's called. It's the one with the beach bottom pool across from the boardwalk. They loved it because when they were all parked-out they just hung out by their "beach". The girls enjoyed it as much as the park and mom and dad got to relax for awhile. I know that's a short monorail ride from one of the parks.
DH and I have stayed at the value hotels - the Movie one I think. It was adequate for the price and cute for kids but I remember the ride to the park was a little longer.

Re: Where to stay in Disney?
If you can afford it, stay at the beach club or one of the magic kingdom resorts. The proximity to the park would be a huge help with young kids (you can walk to epcot from the beach club in about 5 minutes - and, as another poster said, there are ferries to mgm and epcot).
If you want a value resort, SIL says the music themed one gets picked up and dropped off by the bus first, which could make things easier.

Re: Where to stay in Disney?
We stayed at the Polynesian earlier this year and DH and I agreed, we wouldn't stay anywhere else when in Disney from now on. The Grand Floridian is beautiful (aesthetically nicer than the Polynesian), but it's also a bit on the pretentious side.

Re: Where to stay in Disney?
We just stayed at the Pop Century for two days last week. It's a value resort- we paid $82 a night. It is a typical "motel" room, small but it was perfect for us for our two days. The grounds are awesome- all icons from the difference decades. If you are looking for luxary it's not the place for you.... but if you are looking for a place to sleep and maybe take a dip in the pool it's worth the money. They have buses to the parks and are also entitled to the extra magic hours.

Music is on the same bus line as the Movies and Sports.
The other Value (Pop Century) has it's own bus line.

Re: Where to stay in Disney?
In June my Dh, 3 kids and I stayed at the Polynesian for 7 nights. It was our second time there. It's a beautiful hotel and my kids love it there. It also has monorail access which makes life a whole lot easier!
