Where would you like to live in Nassau?
If you love your neighborhood or could move anywhere in Nassau, where would it be? Please help me pick some towns to look for a house. I'd like good schools, although they don't have to be "the best on LI". Parks and pool would be nice for the kids. Not a beach person and really don't want to be close to the beach because I want a basement. Thanks!

Are you talking unlimited funds??? Hahahahaha!
I live in Massapequa - love it. Brother just bought in wantagh, loves it. Seaford, Merrick, bellmore, all great. Bethpage is good too, just too industrial for me (and too close to Grumman).
Basements in those areas are hard to come by but you can find them (we have one as does my brother, and have had no flooding in them even after sandy - north of sunrise). Massapequa has Marjorie post park & pool.

Re: Where would you like to live in Nassau?
I love my neighborhood, Whitestone, I grew up here and bought a home here. I like that it is "suburban" in many ways but also "urban" in others, good commute to NYC etc. If I HAD to live in LI proper it would be Manhasset, for the same reasons I like Whitestone. Actually if I could afford Manhasset I might even choose it over Whitestone

Re: Where would you like to live in Nassau?
I think some of this depends on what you are looking for and what you can afford.
I, too, prefer places with more of a downtown space, but others like areas that are a bit more open. The price of houses also seriously varies in Nassau. You could be talking about $300,000, $750,000, or 12 million dollars.

Completely agree, the areas mentioned with the "downtowns" are going to be much closer to the $500K++++++ range, while the south shore, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa, Bellmore, Merrick, are going to be in the $350-500K range. Could you find houses for outside of those price ranges in either direction, sure? But it's definitely something to keep in mind.

Re: Where would you like to live in Nassau?
Stewart Manor - I grew up there and my parents still live there. I love the area but it's bit pricey.
My sister and brother both live in E. Rockaway and have their children in the public schools. They have never complained.
Most of my family lives in RVC and are in the public schools. They love it.
Other areas I love:
Port Washington Bellerose Village Floral Park Syosset

Re: Where would you like to live in Nassau?
I looove Floral Park Village, even looked at houses there but for the price, the houses were small, if a basement at all. We bought in North Bellmore and wouldn't change a thing. Love our house, huge finished basement, schools are great, close to everything. The surrounding areas are great too.

Re: Where would you like to live in Nassau?
i live in Forest City which is a community in Wantagh. but we're levittown schools. i absolutely love it here. we are 8 houses away from Forest City Park which has a playground, pool, lake and picnic area. we're right around the corner from North Bellmore with the shopping centers. the schools have a bad rep for some reason, but they're great.

This! A downtown and walkability was a must for us when househunting. We landed in Floral park and couldn't be happier!

Re: Where would you like to live in Nassau?
If I had unlimited funds, I would love a town like Laurel Hollow. It's private with lots of greenery and it runs along a coast line which we like.
Realistically, we have looked in RVC and Massapequa. I like the character of the homes in RVC and the village area is great. Massapequa is certainly more affordable and you get more bang for your buck there.
