Which AMEX is better? Gold or Green?
We have tons of other cards (don't use them though unless it's a big purchase for security and we pay them off immediately and because we hate CCs), so we were looking into getting an AMEX card. I like that you have to pay the entire balance off when you get the bill but which one is better? green or gold?
Thanks!

Re: Which AMEX is better? Gold or Green?
well the green one has a yearly fee of $55 and the gold one I think is $125...so which one do you want to pay?

Re: Which AMEX is better? Gold or Green?
I have the gold one and I like it, hate the fee but I get membership rewards with it so that is good
eta - for the green card, the annual fee is $95 plus #30 for an additional card holder so that would be 125 for DH and I
The rewards plus gold is 150 with 5 free cardmembers
so for 25 bucks more a year, we chose the rewards plus gold. HTH

The Gold is a better card - although the fee may be higher, the rewards are better.

I have the gold as well and as Steph said, it's worth the extra $ over the green.
With the gold rewards, you can pick from hundreds of types of rewards. We've gotten everything from concert tix to home depot gift certificates to airline tix.

Right now we have the blue, but I'm wondering are the gold rewards different from the blue rewards?

I've had the gold for 10+ years and love the membership rewards (which is an add'l $40/year). We've gotten a ton of great "freebies" including my Dyson and a slew of gift cards to restaurants & stores.
My sister has the platinum card and gets amazing perks.

I'm not sure how the rewards differ. But I do know with the Blue you can carry a balance. You can with the gold, but you need to be approved for it. It's an additional benefit.
I think the basic benefits of the 2 cards are different.

it's the same as not paying it at all I think, it shows as a late payment and can go on your credit

I never wanted to pay for credit cards. Plus Amex isn't accepted everywhere.

Re: Which AMEX is better? Gold or Green?
The green and gold rewards cards are charge cards. Meaning, there is no limit but you have to pay it in full each month (they establish a preliminary limit when you first get the card and then modify it over the years based on your spending). After you have the card for a while, they will allow you to carry a balance on approved purchases. I believe they must be over a $ amount and you are of course billed a finance charge. There are annual fees associated with the green and gold cards.
The blue card is a credit card with no fee, but you have a limit and can carry a balance as long as you want (and are billed finance charges). There is the blue rewards card and the blue cash card. I've only had the gold rewards and the blue cash so I don't know how the blue rewards compare to the gold rewards. But I love my blue cash card. I got back $700 last year.

Re: Which AMEX is better? Gold or Green?
We have AMEX Blue and love it. We earn rewards points and there's no annual fee. In addition, you don't have to pay off the entire balance every month and I have a VERY low rate 3.99 that is fixed.
Really, you can't beat it.
I know someone above mentioned they aren't accepted everywhere but I haven't run into that problem yet and I've had the card for almost 5 years.

I think it used to be a bigger problem in Europe, but they do a number of co-branded cards with banks over there now so it really isn't a big issue.
Unless you are going to the Superbowl or the Olympics. For some reason those commercials where they say American Express isn't accepted at the event stick in my head.

We have a gold card and we have carried a balance on it (vacations, appliances, etc.) I think any purchase over $250 is eligible for the balance with interest option.

We have the Gold and even though the yearly fee is a bit high, the flexibility and the rewards are awesome!
