If you are going to pump alot I would go with a hospital grade electric double pump from Medela.

Yup... you can rent them. Reason being is that pump isn't nearly as effective as the baby, so you need something powerful enough to keep your supply going. I pump while I'm at work and I have the Medela pump in style (advanced) but I love it, but you would probably need to start out with a hospital grade pump first.

Re: Which Breastpump??

If you plan to pump and not nurse at all..you will need to rent a hospital grade pump for the first 6-12 weeks. You will then need to migrate over to the PIS or PIS Advance.
Be very prepared with how time consuming this all is. It is not just a simple "pump" once in a while. You will need to pump 8-10x per day, 20-30 minutes per time. This includes getting up in the middle of the night to pump. In addition, you need to feed your baby, prepare and wash bottles etc..

I am NOT discouraging you. I did this for 1 year. I am just trying to prepare you for what lies ahead.

It is really rec'd that you nurse for the first few weeks to get your supply established. This is better for your supply as a pump is not a baby and your body will respond differently.
Plus when you start to pump you will get very little and often that scares parents into giving formula..but you don't need to do that. Your baby does not need tons of bm in the beginning.

I would HIGHLY rec'd getting a hands free bra. It is great. I got mine on ebay, NEW
Hands Free Bra

If you need any help pumping or with schedules or support or just to vent please let me know!

Michele - how does this work? Can you use it over your nursing bra? (I'm thinking about work - it's a little akward to change bras in my office everytime I need to pump)

I pumped a lot on the first go around. I used Medela - it has the double pump option but I don't know one person who used it. If you're going back to work, I'd get the backpack option which has a more compact motor & works just as well. They had it a BBB when I got it.
