which dr/hospital
my dr is at northshore lij and i would deliver at lij (assuming everything is normal).
i want to TRY to deliver w/o drugs (dunno if i can) and would like to avoid an episiotomy (unless necessary).
even though my dr said that was fine...i dont picture the dr/lij doing everything possible to help me deliver naturally first.
ive heard great things about stonybrook midwives and stonybrook hospital...but its a hike from east meadow.
is it worth it to switch and drive so far out?
my other issue is that i need late apts (current dr doesnt have ANY and i cant leave work soooo much - i work in garden city).
any suggestions/options/advice about drs/hospitals? Thanks!!!!

i don't understand why you're questioning the doctor and hospital if he told you that was fine? why wouldn't they let you do what you have your heart set on?
it's one thing if he told you no, or if you'd experienced him saying no before, but he seems on target with what you want to do. i wouldn't switch because you *think* he won't stick to what he said.

Re: which dr/hospital
North Shore is a MUCH better hospital than stonybrook. I live about 5 min from stonybrook and i would much rather travel out to manhasset. your in great hands I would stay put.

Re: which dr/hospital
If you want to deliver without drugs (that is what I assume you mean by naturally) North Shore/LIJ wouldn't be the best place IMO. They offer no support for a drug free delivery, and they have a HIGH epidural rate.
Nassau Universal Medical Center has a lot of experience with natural births, several midwives deliver from that hospital AND they have a water birth room. My midwife delivers from that hospital and said it is great.
Stonybrook is good too- if you go there use the Stonybrook midwives and you'd have a great shot at a natural birth.
Good luck!

ITA. For Nassau Medical Center you can check out Gaia Midwifery which is based in Greenlawn, they offer the waterbirths as well. I met Dale Cook, midwife and she seemed great. I just went to a seminar where they were there and seemed great, I wanted to switch but i'm so far along at this point. I love Stonybrook midwives though, I had first dd with them and had a great experience, just wished that they did offer water births.

Re: which dr/hospital
I don't really know much about the differnent hospitals, but if your doctors schedule doesn't work for you, then that could be a good reason to switch. After all, you will be seeing him 15+ times throughout the pregnany and that's a lot of time to have to take off from work.

thanks...yes this is what i meant.
based on what ive read/stats...it just didnt seem like a place for drug-free births meaning they wouldnt exhaust all options before telling me to just take the drugs.
