I don't know much about the eat thermometers but I know that a recal temp is always the most accurate. When I call the pediatrician if DS is sick, they always ask for his rectal temp.

We have a Braun Thermoscan which is really easy to use. Like the PP mentioned the ped usually wants you to take the temp rectally so we first see if his temp is off at all with the Braun and then we take it rectally if we need to.

Yeha I agree, my ped wont even hear what her temp is if it is anything but rectal!

I did rectal temps on DD for the first year of her life then bought the Thermoscan. I did a comparison the first few times and they ran pretty close to the same temp so I've been using the ear thermometer ever since.

Re: which ear thermometer is the best and easiest to use?
Our ped used the ear thermometer at every visit. For the vast majority of times, "good enough" is "good enough". 98.6 and 99.1 is the same temp. 100.1 and 100.9 is the same thing. It's really about "no temp", "mild temp" and "high temp". That's really how you treat them.
Actually, rectal can be wrong, too. If you don't leave it in long enough, you can get the wrong temp, so they are far from perfect. Maybe the digital ones that beep, but some people don't fully trust the digital ones, either.
Pretty much all we've used is the ear thermometer for both DC. It's great in the middle of the night so you don't wake them. We've compared it to our own temps on numerous occasions, and compared it to rectal, and I've never seen a noticeable difference in temps. Definitely not a difference that would matter.
