Which is correct? (names for married couples)
After the wedding, if the woman changes her name, which is correct?
John and Mary Smith
or
Mary and John Smith
I always thought it was John and Mary Smith, but I'm receiving holiday cards to "Mary and John Smith" from "Jane and Joseph Jones"

Ha Ha, I had the same question. I always signed Mike and Jaime, but then started getting cards from people with the gals name signed first. So now I sign my name first. Ladies first!!

Someone told me back in Jr. High that it is suppose to be the girls name first! I always wrote the guys first.

I dont always follow this rule, but the mans name is always supposed to be followed by his last name. So it should be Jane and Joe Smith.

I think it's whoever is sending the card!
When I send cards I say the woman's name first. When DH does it, it's the man's name first!

I don't always follow it either, but it the man should never be separated from his last name...so it should be:
John and Jane Smith ...
because when you add the "Mr. and Mrs." it's supposed to make sense and read:
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith

As I write my holiday cards, I sign them with my name first. If DH gets POd - his problem - he aint writing them.
Personally, I think the lady should come first.

I do that too. And if it is my friend or fam, I sign my name first, and if it is Rob's friend or fam, I sign his name first.
