I thought recording was optional, but my friend may have explained wrong (im on childcare leave so I wasnt at confr)
And with option 1 you have to hit all 22 points? That seems really intense
I never heard of having to hit all 22 points. Where did you get that info?
Yes, we were told it has to have all 22! My principal and UFT rep. both said it! IT'S INSANE! This whole thing is out of control!

I am choosing Option A without being recorded, as I can even stand to hear my voice on my answering machine.
As for hitting all 22 components, we had PD today on the observations and it said you have to hit all 22 components over all the observations, not just the formal.
We were told the formal has to hit all 22.We were also told that with the informals you had to hit the 22. I don't think anyone really knows anything for sure. Someone high up is making it up as they go along. We the teachers and principals are the idiots who just have to follow it! NOT LMAO!

Which obsevation option are you choosing?
We just had a talent coach from the DOE come in who's trained in Danielson and she said its two components they (meaning our admin) are coming in for, one was classroom environment and the other I can't think of at the moment- brain freeze.

Re: Which obsevation option are you choosing?
option 1 formal does NOT have to hit all 22. We just received an email on Wednesday stating that the UFT did not agree to this. They will try and look for all 22 but you will not officially be held responsible for all 22... it just doesn't make sense anyway... how can you hit domain 4 (community) in a single lesson? You may have to show your "artifacts" in another lesson or planning time...

Re: Which obsevation option are you choosing?
As an AP, it is my understanding that all 22 components need to be hit through out the course of observations.
There is no way you could see domain 1 and domain 4 in a formal observation. The focus is on domains 2 and 3. That is why they weigh more (75%) for the two and domains 1 & 4 are each 12.5.
I don't care which my staff picks. Whatever they feel most comfortable with is fine with me. But, I am not one of those APs who goes in "looking" for "bad" things. I look for areas of success and improvement (2 pats, 1 push)

My admins are like this too! It makes the whole process so much less scary!

We were told that in our pre-observation conference we have to show "artifacts" for domain 1&4 so that we do hit all 22 components. They said essentially we have to bring a portfolio.

Personally, it seems nobody's information is concrete. I think this is going to be a year where administrators and teachers are somewhat "lost" and I bet this is going to be the year with the most grievances!

Which obsevation option are you choosing?
It's been nice having all of you to bounce info back and forth to. Maybe we can have a thread to check in every once in a while to share experiences as they come along. My DH is so devestated from all of this and school has barely started. There is barely enough time to plan as it is and now they are adding more crap on the heap.

Re: Which obsevation option are you choosing?
Option 1 is 1 formal and a minimum of 3 informals. This option focus on domains 2 And 3. Option 2 is a minimum of 6 informals and must hit all 22 components. They will come back as may times as it takes to hit those 22. If choosing option 1 in ou pre observation conference you can discuss with our AP our lesson and try to hit as many components as possible. Domains 1 and 4 focus mainly on professional responsibilities which can be justified by lesson plans , behavior tracking, parent call logs, etc. the only thing that was not clarified in our pd was tht if we have meet all our criteria in let's say January, are we done fr the year??

Im on maternity but this is what i am hearing from my coworkers. Its sad, amazing teachers telling me they are going home and crying. They feel overwhelmed, stetched thin and feel like they will have no time fr anything but work. Some have young kids at home and cant start their own planning til late and are up for hours to complete 1 reading lesson plan. And this is only day 4. Oh and observations start next week

Which obsevation option are you choosing?
It so sad. I know that there are horrible things I life but teaching children is such a gift. I pray that when I watc the news that someone will begin to fight all of this craziness. Why reinvent the wheel? The people making these changes got a good enough education when they were kids right? That's how they grew up to fill such important roles? All perspective has been lost for them I guess. Such a shame. Yes I pray for world peace, cures for sicknesses but also for those amazing people like my DH to not come home with some much defeat and anxiety when he has never even gotten any bad reviews. It's just not right. I even wrote to Newsday hoping that they would look into exploring this side of the system. Never heard back... ??
