Which Port Orleans Resort
French Quarter or Riverside?
We were going to stay at the new Art of Animation resort, but then DH realized all value resorts have two full size (not queen) beds - so he wants to stay at a moderate resort. Caribbean Beach is out because it too only has two full size beds (or one king - but we need two beds).

Re: Which Port Orleans Resort
If your DD likes Princesses POR just put in brand new Royal guest rooms that look really fun. My girls saw pictures and are dying to stay in them.
If not - it really depends on what you are looking for. I have friends who like both - so it depends on what you want.
POFQ is a new orleans theme. It is a nice small resort. I'm pretty sure that their rehab was completed and all rooms now have queen beds. Just a food court and no sit down restaurant. You can go next door to POR for the sit down if you care about it.
POR - has 2 sections and is much more spread out but from speaking with friends who have stayed there people seem to really enjoy it. They have a bayou theme and a mansion section. 2 of the mansion buildings that are closest to the food court are just for the royal guest rooms. They are undergoing renovations now - and all rooms will be completely they estimate in August. If you go with a royal guest room you will definitely get a new room. After the rehab the rooms will all be queens.
This site has info on the RGR and is devoted to POR and POFQ. The site also had rehab info to give you an idea of what to request if you don't go with a RGR. Additionally it also will allow you to compare the two resorts and see which one fits you better. I don't think you can go wrong with either one - but they are definitely different so you have to see what appeals to you more. http://www.portorleans.org/

Re: Which Port Orleans Resort
For the resort itself, I like French Quarter. It's smaller and more intimate, nice to walk around, but for kids (and face it, for me too) I would choose a Royal Storybook room at Riverside. All of the details look AMAZING!
ETA: I have to find the thread, but last week I posted pics of the Storybook rooms.

Re: Which Port Orleans Resort
We stayed in the bayou section of PO Riverside and really liked it. The grounds were huge and it was a bit of a walk to get to the food court and main lobby, however the bus stop was right outside our room, so that made up for it. I liked that we also had the option to take the riverboat to downtown Disney.

Thank you for the recommendation, but we're trying to keep costs down, and are only switching to a moderate resort because the values only have double beds instead of queens.

I do prefer French Quarter then. Smaller, beautiful grounds, and the pool is one of the best on property.
However, since it is small, discounted rooms disappear very quickly.
ETA: What time of year are you looking for?

If you don't need sleeping quarters for 5 and don't want the Royal Guest Rooms, then French Quarter is my choice. It's an intimate resort that's easy to get around, the beignets are yummy, and you still have full access to Riverside's amenities without dealing with a larger resort.
The renovations are complete and the queen beds plus new furnishings really make the rooms look much better.
It's our favorite moderate resort!
