Which styling tool gives you the best curls?

For my birthday, I got a Herstyler 3P 3-In-1 Curling Wand based on a recommendation from this site. I used it 2-3 times and then it would not heat up, so I returned it. The curls came out okay; I was still just getting used to using the curling wand.

So here is my dilemma: with my amazon refund what type of curling tool should I get? Reorder the Herstyler 3P 3-In-1 Curling Wand, order a different wand, or just get a regular 1 inch (clamp) curling iron.
Any specific recommendations would be great.

I know I can use a straightener, so I am not looking for that as a suggestion - I already use that on a regular basis and I am looking for a different type of curl.

I am probably the person who recommended the herstyler because I have one...sorry yours died..mine has always been reliable and gives great curl...that being said..after what happened I would not think it would be unusual to be iffy about the brand..but there are sooo many curling wands out there now that I would definitely get another curling wand..I have had quite a few different ones and they all work great..I just like the herstyler because of the different sizes...I also Have a 1" regular curling iron I also cannot live without...the curling iron curl is different than the curling wand curls so i have to have both..(my curling iron is Hot Tools)

A curling iron and hairspray works well for me.

I have an amika curling wand. The curls come out great, can last days if I don't wash my hair. Thewand gets really hot so it's important to wear the glove that comes with it.
