which type of crib?

we went looking at cribs today. it's probably the only piece of furniture we'll buy since we already have other bedroom furniture that we can use.

should we get the convertible crib so that it will turn into a bed? that's what we're leaning toward.

or the crib with the drop down sides that doesn't convert so we'll have to buy another bed in a few years?

TIA!

Re: which type of crib?

I think the baby bargains book said that the crib that converts to a bed can be a waste of money- especially if you are planning on having more children, because you will probably re-use the crib again... other then that, i have NO clue! Chat Icon Chat Icon

i JUST finished reading that section 10 minutes ago Chat Icon

our plan is to use the crib for both kids and then convert it to the bed. we have another nice bed that we'd then use for the first child.

Re: which type of crib?

We originally planned on getting a convertible bed then realized that we did not have the room for a full size bed in his nursery/bedroom. We will have to buy a twin so why spend so much money to store a bed in the garage for years.

We got a crib with a drop down side (which now is the only way for me... I am short and DS is heavy!). It converts to a "daybed" so it will be used when he a bit older before an actual twin bed.

We got the convertable crib... but not because it converts to a bed, I liked the style MUCH BETTER!

I'm on the other side of the fence. Convertible crib all the way! Got one for our first DD and love it. mind you we have the room for a Full size. Now that we are having #2, we were going to get another convertable because we feel it's worth the money in the long run. Instead we got DD new furniture are DD #2 will use the convertable (convert back) and will covert when she is ready to Full size.

My personal take is that if you do not have the room for a full size bed in the room don't get it, however if you do, then it's worth it.

The cost of a crib, toddler bed (total waste of money), twin or full size (all adds up to more or depending on the crib the same amount).

It worked well for us, crib to Full size. Instead of several changes for the baby to her big girl bed. KWIM.

I just went looking today too.

At first I thought I was going to get the convertible, but then when I leaned over the rail, I found it to be uncomfortable.

If the baby grows, and you drop the mattress to its lowest level, I wondered if it would kill your back to pick up / put down the baby?

Now I'm not sure - the convertible are stunning - but I have a bad back already.

Re: which type of crib?

I think we are going with the convertible bed, but we are both tall - I'm 5'9" and DH is 6'2" so it's not really a stretch for us to put the baby in the crib....we were testing it at BRU yesterday.

Re: which type of crib?

We got our crib at Bellini. Its a convertible with the dropside. My DH and I are both not very tall. My sister said told him to get the dropside crib. My sister had some big kids and when they got to be a couple of months and got heavy, she said it was a blessing to have had the dropside when she put a heavy sleeping toddler into the crib.

DH did not forget that and the one that really had both options was Bellini. He was insistent that we get the crib with both options!

you can't go wrong either way.

We decided on a drop down crib because we will not be able to fit comfortablly a full size bed in the babies room and we want to use the crib for our next children. Also, you have to buy the conversion kit, separate fee, to make those cribs into beds. Those were my reasonsChat Icon

us too and the way we see it is when we have more kids we will either had to buy a new crib for the new baby or a new bedroom set for this one.

Re: which type of crib?

we got the convertible, along with the matching armoire and dresser with mirror... we figure it will be her bedroom furniture and bed since it is definitely girly. if we have another girl, we can use it again, or if it's a boy, we'll just buy a bedroom set and convertible crib for baby #2
