Which would you choose...

Which would you choose...

Two options

1) The district I was excessed from has hired me as a sub. It is 45 minutes away. I haven't been approved yet as a perm. sub (I was told I would be in June but everytime I inquire...I get the run around). I was also approved to be an ***'t coach $5800 a season.

2) A district 5 minutes from my house has hired me as a sub, but I won't be approved till the end of Sept at the next board meeting. The principal was great and told me that if I prove myself she will make sure I am taken care of when a spot opens. She likes to take care of her "people".

So what do I do? My old district keeps giving me the run around. I don't really want to coach out there unless I know I am a perm sub because who wants to drive 45 minutes each way to coach for 2 hours or so?

I'm not sure what the better option is. I want where the best opportunity is for me. I don't know if my old district is the best place because I interviewed there for a p/t position and didn't even make it to the 2nd round of interviews. I never had a bad write up there, everything was always good and I was very involved with the students.

What would you do? Any help would be great.

TIA

Honestly, from your history at your old district and the way they treated/are treating you, I would go for the new district position. It's convenient and sounds like it could be a promising move. Good luck in whatever you chose!

Thanks. I think in my head that is the best option. I just don't know what happens if I back out of coaching. I don't want to end on a bad note with my old district. They still have 5 years to hire me back as a business teacher. I mean if I coach and have to drive home 45 minutes thats a long day with two little kids. I just always make the wrong decisions. Option B. Your old district has not been all that great to you, and it is a long haul. You are better off putting out feelers close to home.

Re: Which would you choose...

Definitely option B. It's close, and the promise of "being taken care of" would definitely lure me. Waiting until a Sept board meeting won't make a dent in the calls you get for subbing; very few people take off that early in the school year.

Good to know I am thinking the same way everyone else is.

Does anyone know what happens with coaching? Do I have to resign if I have been board approved?

Can you be on the sub list at both schools and also still do the coaching?

Yes and no.

The school district closer to my house would be primarily at the middle school, which gets out 30 minutes later than my old district which would be primarily the high school. Plus it is a 45 minute drive, so I would be a hour late to practice every day. I can't see them going for that.

The way I see it is they have no loyalty when it comes to you so don't worry about backing out of the coaching. You have to do what is best for you in the long run. Chat Icon

New district!!!! Fresh start. Old one is giving you the run around!

Although I am so jaded by principals I don't believe anyone who says that they will help me. JMO

I agree with everyone else. I would go to the new district closer to home. I remember your previous posts about your old district not hiring you.
