Re: Which would you tackle first?

I would do bottle. At least for us, DD doesn't use a bottle at all to fall asleep or soothe herself.

A paci for us would be wayy harder.

Re: Which would you tackle first?

absolutely the binky. well depending on how long its in their mouths. If its a "binky all day" kid, Id get rid of that habit asap.
My limit with the binky was 18m, and the bottle was 2.

My boys were off the binky by 13 and 15m, and the bottles right before they turned 2. I figured they just drank from the bottled once or twice a day, and also had sippy cups by then, so it wasnt a hard transition at all.
I just didnt want this addicition of the binky. my goal was before they could talk, and luckily, I got John Anthonys binky away by 13m, because by 15m he was quite a chatterbox

Re: Which would you tackle first?

We did the pacifier first, and within 24 hours she was off completely. We just went cold turkey and I was scared but for some reason she just took her naps without it, and we have't looked back since. It's been nearly 6 months since she's had a pacifier.

The bottle is an entirely different story. We are still giving her 2 bottles a day --- when she wakes up and before bed (we brush her teeth afterwards). I think it is more of my problem then hers, I am just worried since she is so skinny and eats so little that she NEEDS her bottles and so I'm afraid to get rid of them.

But I know I need to do it soon, and I think it will be way harder then the pacifier. Last night (since she's been very sick and throwing up) she went to bed without a bottle for the first time ever --- and she went to sleep no problem, so I know it's more my issue then hers.

Re: Which would you tackle first?

Sydney is a year old and only takes the pacifier at night and for naps. I want to get rid of it but dh feels that it is not a problem since she only takes it for those limited times. I know it wont work unless we both are on board.

We are trying to get her to drink her milk from the sippy cup and she wont have it- but from reading your posts I guess she is young for the switch.

I would do bottle first because I feel that the pacifier is one step down from a bottle.

I think it's easier for them to l start drinking out of a sippy cup if they still have that crutch of a pacifier to suck on.

Bottles were done at 1 year for both of my kids. Pacifier was done at 22 months for Joseph (way too old IMO but when I was pregnant I let things go). Maddie is 3 & still going strong with her thumb.Chat Icon
