While we're talking jobs, does anyone (or your DH work as a consultant)
Fh was just offered a job as a consultant for 3 months with the intention of hiring him after that full time. Has anyone ever worked as a consultant? it kind of worried me b/c it just feels insecure, and we'd have to pay for cobra, etc. Any insights?

He would also have to pay his own taxes and he would be considered having his own business. I was once offered a position similar...3 months as a consultant, with an intent to hire...but they wouldn't put it in writing that they would definitely hire me. I was also too concerned about not receiving a paycheck every other week, so I didn't do it. But...you can make alot of $$$ consulting.

What do people do for taxes? Do you put money aside in a savings account or something?

I keep the $ aside, usually I open a CD to mature just before the taxes are due.
I am covered on DH's insurance so that at least is not an issue for me...

Not necessarily. This to me sounds like a temp to perm position. A lot of these positions will withhold taxes just a like a full time position would. They just don't offer Medical.
I would ask the job first if they withhold taxes. If they do and it seems like a decent position... might be worth checking out.
