White or off-white kitchen cabinets?
DH and I are remodeling our kitchen. It's a small house in Queens, no windows in the kitchen so we wanted to go with white or off-white cabinets. Plus, I LOVE the look of white kitchen cabinets so between that and the no window thing, it seemed like a given that we were going to get white or off-white cabinets.
We went to a cabinet place today and the guy warned us that white cabinets will crack and show wear and tear much more easily than stained wood. He told us he just wanted to warn us about it and suggested a lighter stained wood instead of white.
I've had my heart set on white or off-white so I'm leaning towards getting them regardless of what the guys said. Does anyone have any experience with white or off white cabinets? Thanks!

I plan on getting Antique White Cabinets when I redo my kitchen. I know plenty of people who have them and have absolutely no complaints. Well, other than when little dirty hands are opening the bottom cabinets lol The dirt can show so you may be wiping down where the knobs are more often than with reg wood cabinets

I think it depends what material is used and the quality of the material. I know some people who had white cabinets that yellowed and some with painted white that chipped. Of course, white kitchens are still immensely popular so it obviously does not deter most people.

As far as I understand it, your salesperson is right if you are talking about painted wood cabinets. Wood expands and contracts-the paint on top won't-so you could end up getting a spider web cracks on it. Stained wood won't crack. But if you have your heart set on white cabinets and don't want cracks, look into thermofoil cabinets. The new ones supposedly don't yellow as the old ones used to. Good Luck!

I have maple cabinets and they are painted white with a glaze, They are over 5 years old and there are no cracks in them or showing any wear what so ever. In fact people comment all the time about how good everything still looks

I think this blog post will help you understand the nature of painted finishes and help make your decision. Of course you can have white cabinets... just buy quality and be sure the painted finish is catalyzed. Here are two links that might help clarify any confusion:

and

Hope this helps.
