White Post is better, IMO. I don't think you can do apple picking there though, but WP is great for young children.
Hanks is really for older children, and it's more money. I went this weekend and it was my least favorite farm.

We go to Schmitts Farm in Melville. There's no entrance fee. It's great if you're looking for a few pumpkin pics and they do have a play area (that you might have to pay for, I can't remember)
