Ya meanin and Trager mostly on my block. I would love to do the C.O.D. Oil BUT i'd be afraid of something happening to my burner and not having a contract. I don't think you can have C.O.D oil and a contract right
even though my Burner is not ancient its about 10 years old we have never (KNOCK ON WOOD) had a problem where we needed to call them in but as soon as we cancel you know we would LOL ARGHHH

We signed with General Benit in the summer and the rate was $2.699 and if you pay within 10 days they deduct .03 per gallon which doesn't really amount to much.

We did something similar.
We have a brand new oil burner and hot water heater so it was a lot more economical to do C.O.D. and buy the service contract separately. I think we paid $160 for the contract and $1.89 a gallon. Considering we have a pretty big house it saves us about $800. (last year's prices) if we do it this way.
I can understand that if your system is older you would feel more comfortable with an all in one contract.

what do you mean and all in one contract. I would really think about buying the contract seperate. Since slomins charged 130. for the contract
Is the contract you buy an all in one contract

2.89 locked in , we locked in in July, not knowing the prices would go down, but they can go up again. We have a contract with Petro. But we needed them last night- had a back puf, needed new pump and transformer and they were there within 2 hours of calling.

Traditional contracts you pay more per gallon for oil and customers are told that they get "free" service. There really is no such thing. Companies make up the difference in the inflated price of oil that they charge you. Right not C.O.D. is running less than $2 a gallon.
Had we signed an automatic delivery contract with a company that also included "free service" we would have paid about 80 cents more a gallon last year. Considering we have a large colonial, and weren't even living in the house last winter due to renovations, we would have spent at least over $800 more to go the traditional route.
Instead we get C.O.D. delivery from one company and we signed a separate service contract with another. We did this because we have a brand new (less than a year old) Weil-McClane oil burner. The chances of something going wrong this year are slim no none but we did have it cleaned and serviced this summer although the tech said it barely needed it. The price of the contract paid for the cleaning alone.
If my system was 10 or 20 years old I might consider the all inclusive contract because, at that point, your chances of a breakdown are greater and you might want to spend the extra money to have piece of mind to have both oil and service with one company. It all depends upon each homeowners' particular situation.

Re: who do you have an oil contract with and how much do you pay a gallon?
One big drawback to COD is when there are oil shortages it can be hard to get oil delivery. I remember an article a few years ago quoting several COD customers saying they were calling all over trying to get delivery and the contract customers all got priority. Just something to consider if growing problems in the middle east, natural disasters like Katrina, Alaskan pipeline problems, etc. affect the supply of oil.
We have a variable lock in with Petro - $2.49 currently and a $2.85 ceiling. If prices drop more our delivery price will drop, but never go over the $2.85 no matter what they go up to.
Includes service which we use for annual cleaning at no additional charge and have had them come out on 3 occasions for other issues. Each time we called for "emergency" service they arrived before the estimated time.
One time, when they were fixing a small leak in the pipe going from the boiler to the water heater, we mentioned a problem with water going cold in the shower even if no one else was in the house using water. The technician looked over the pipes and said there was no backflow valve. He had one in his truck and put it in - no additional charge. He said Petro's policy was if there was any problem that could be resolved in under an hour they should fix it, even if it wasn't part of the contract like this situation.

Re: who do you have an oil contract with and how much do you pay a gallon?
We have Petro too, and I just capped at 2.85 and I actually pay for a top of the line service contract because my burner is over 40yrs old. Last year they had to come out 3-4 times and that alone is worth it, especially since my husband does heating (commercial) in the city and each and every time I was alone.

Re: who do you have an oil contract with and how much do you pay a gallon?
I have had Petro for 5 years. My contract is up in November. I have decided o go with a heating CO-Op. The price of oil is always about .50 less than reail (for example right now it is 2.29, and the service contract is free. It is only $25.00 to join the CO-Op..

Re: who do you have an oil contract with and how much do you pay a gallon?
)We switched to Lewis in August with a lockin rate of $2.64 (also not knowing prices would drop so much ) and got a contract which included burner and hot water heater for $75. I also don't want to deal with trying to get someone to come if there is a problem or having to pay to have something repaired so I opted for the all inclusive.

I have a 1,000 gallon tank so I don't need to worry about that.

Re: who do you have an oil contract with and how much do you pay a gallon?
locked in in july with romanelli and sons for $2.59 and a service contract.
Last year we did COD delivery, but this year I'm afraid something will happen to the burner. We are fixing other areas of our house and I can't afford to have that thing go!
