Who else's company cancelled this year's holiday party?

My company usually has a big holiday party around the 12th or 13th of December. We just got the word - it ain't happening this year. Of course I'm not surprised given the economy right now - but anybody else's company pull the plug on the holiday party? Anyone else's company having one IN SPITE OF the economy?

I'm 100% sure it's cancelled with layoff news today, I"m not surprised.

I have to admit, if given a choice between our holiday party and my bonus....I'll take my bonus please! We still don't know whether or not we're getting one this year.

My DH's company is still having its holiday party. I have no idea about my firm... I haven't heard anything about it. I assume we'd have gotten an invite by now if we were having it. I don't usually go (it's usually on my dad's birthday or another family event) - but I think we normally hear about it by now.

ours was cancelled as well. They are going to bring in food on the 12th and close early. I really doubt we are getting bonuses this year

We never have one at my company - nor do we receive bonuses but as usual we're having our "Thanksgiving Feast" and then in December we're having our annual "Holiday Feast".

Basically, it's a party the workers put together (this year my department is heading it up) and everyone brings in dishes.

It started a few years ago b/c our company doesn't do anything and it was small - just desserts and stuff but over the years it's grown into an all day thing and people really go all out! We even had a turkey last year!

Looking at the list no one really seems to be cutting back on what they're bringing which is nice to see. I hope the one in December is just as good.

Our luncheon was cancelled, but we're having a cheese/cracker w/wine with staff, students and faculty.

DH's holiday party was cancelled. My company wouldn't cancel mine because their too cheap to ever have one so the employees chip in and pay for their own.

I WISH they would.
IMO it is horrendous. I have no desire to spend my own personal time socializing with these people- yet if you don't go it looks bad.
PLEASE cancel it save the money! Use it towards our bonuses or raises for next year....please!

We aren't getting holiday party, a bonus OR 401k match. At least I still have a job though.

I haven't heard yet if ours is on or cancelled yet.

Although I agree that I'd rather we get our bonuses and raises instead of having the party! (but I honestly don't think the cost of the party would cover that for all our employees!).
