who gets nosebleeds???
I have been getting mild nosebleeds throughout the pregnancy. I read that this is normal, due to increased blood flow. Now for the past 2 days, the nosebleeds have been more severe This was the first time that I had blood run out even when I was not blowing my nose. I believe that I may be fighting a cold. Other than the nosebleeds, I have done a great job fighting the cold. I just had some aches and pains for a day, with a mildly stuffed nose. I'm on a medication for my heart arrhythmia and I my doctor increased the dose very slightly about 5-6 days ago. I read that this drug can cause increased bleeding but my OB said that he has not seen that when dong surgery on people who take this drug. Oh, also, I have a LOT of allergies (that is nothing new).
How severe of a nosebleed is normal? Do I give it another day or so to see if it clears up? Call the cardiologist who is monitoring me on the heart drug? See an ENT?

Re: who gets nosebleeds???
What do you say is severe? Do they last for more than 10 minutes and you need a maxi pad, instead of a few tissues? I am the queen of nose bleeds.

I would say not more than 10 minutes....well, before 10 minutes I can at least get it so that there is not blood running out but I still feel like there is something going on up there!!

OH, I should mention: I am due for another mild increase in my medication this week, as long as I adjust to last week's increase. I guess I should call the Dr. before taking the new dose.

I have had them. I also bleed a little when I blow my nose too hard. But definitely ask your doc.

I get them a lot, and even if I just blow my nose normally, there is usually a little blood in it.

Re: who gets nosebleeds???
I got one nose bleed so far. I have NEVER in my life had a nose bleed, even when I broke it. It wasn't that bad, just bleed for maybe 10 seconds or so.
I do have blood come out when I blow my nose (in the mucus--TMI). It's not normally like that.

Re: who gets nosebleeds???
There's a chance that it could be aggravated by your medication, so I would definately call the dr before you up your meds. From what it sounds like, PG is your culprit because nosebleeds do happen often. But since they increased in intensity at the same time you were on the medicine, I would definately discuss it.

Re: who gets nosebleeds???
Dont mean to but in but have you checked your blood pressure? I woke up with a bloody nose one morning only later to find out it could be a sign of high blood pressure--which i ended up getting! Good Luck!

Actually, one of the problems that has complicated my pregnancy is that I have LOW blood pressure. I am actually prescribed salt pills just to keep it in the low-normal range. We are monitoring it extremely closely anyway, just not for the usual reasons.

Re: who gets nosebleeds???
I do. sometimes when i'm just sitting doing nothing, but i notice that I get them in the morning. I think its a combination of the air cond and being pg. i read that its because of increased blood flow and more estrogen.

Re: who gets nosebleeds???
I've gotten a few. Usually I discover it b/c the blood is running out of my nose. It takes @ 10 minutes to get it to stop. Although I did have one that required pinching the nose closed for 10 minutes and an ice pack to get it to stop.
