Who has fish?
I can't have pets in my building - no dogs, no cats, no birds . . .
So, I figured I'd get a fish. Any suggestions? Do you have to get the whole aquarium set up? What kinds of fish live longest?
TIA

Re: Who has fish?
First you have to figure out what size tank you are going to get, then you can start to think about the types of fish to put in it. Fishtanks are wonderful but can be stressful too.

Re: Who has fish?
My husband is a fish lover and we have several tanks in our house.
I, personally, love the African Chiclid(sp?) tank we have - the fish are small and colorful, but relatively easy to take care of, and can live in a small or a large tank. The only downside is that they are really mean and sometimes beat each other up - but as long as they have places to hide in the tank, life is good for them.

Re: Who has fish?
I had a cichlid (not african) for ten years, I was very happy. I suggest you get a book and read up on it. Some fish cant be kept with others. If you are a beginner, start out with tetras and platys. It takes a while before you get it right (Ph and stuff). Some fish are very sensitive.

ITA. We had a Cichlid tank for a long time. We only recently stopped b/c DH had a huge tank of rare exotic African Cichlids (not the smaller common ones) and the expense was getting insane. So he gave his to his brother, who has a similar tank set up & retired his tank for the time being. He has a 72 gallon tank and had about 20 fish, crabs, puffers, lobsters, eel and shark.
