Who has Pet Allergies???
I had cats all my life and up until about 5-years ago, I became deadly allergic to them 
Has anyone developed this later in life? (not that I am old, but I mean as a kid I had a house full of animals)

Yes - I have always been allergic to cats.......but I had dogs all my life and when I went away to college, I suddenly came home and could barely breathe in my house with my dog - or any other dog (And mine was a Westie, which is supposedly hypo- allergenic)
It wasn't until I got my own Yorkie (2 years ago) ONLY b/c that was the only breed I could seem to stand and DH wanted a puppy so badly - but since her, I've been much much better with other dogs as well -
Not great, but better -

I am highly allergic to cats even though growing up we always had two. I am not allergic to dogs.

Same exact thing with me, except we had a black lab.
My allergies with cats have always been bad. But when I started dating DH, he had a cat that he adored. I started getting allergy shots once a week. It was a long process, but eventually I built up my tolerance and got used to the cats.
We have two cats now, and whenever I pet one of them, I still have to wash my hands immediately following. But for the most part I'm good. It probably also helps that we have 3 Ionic Breezes in my house.

Extremely allergic to cats, to the point if someone has them and sits next to me it will set me off.
I am also allergic to dogs but not nearly as bad. My allergist told me that 2 years ago but I have no intention of giving up Katie. Bathing her seems to help.
ETA: 2 summers ago I was at a house where there was a kitten. It was cute so I put it on my lap and pet it for a few minutes. 10 minutes later I was weezing and had a nasty headache and I had to go home.

I developed my cat allergy when I was about 11 years old. I have never had a cat but I was around them a lot, at neighbors houses, etc. Suddenly, I could not tolerate them. My cat allergy is now very severe and I almost never go to homes where cats live and I would not touch a cat. Allergy tests also show that I have a mild dog allergy but I do have a dog.
