Who has this type of thing going on in their office?

If you work for a small office, let's say up to 12 people do you have certain co-workers that bring in breakfast for eachother? do you find it rude? Especially when they go over to the other person's office they brought the breakfast in for and say out loud.."I brought you in one for you and one for Tanya"..

I happen to think it's rude. This favoritism BS is just plain... BS!!Chat Icon

Two of the guys go for breakfast and coffee everyday - but they always ask us if we want anything, even though we always say no thanks.

It definately seems a bit rude. At my last job we would order breakfast at times but always made an announcement so that everybody could order if they wanted something. At my current job we have a birthday club where people bring in bagels and such for each others birthdays. It works out pretty well here.

I had this happen all the time at one place I worked at. There were only 4 girls and 2 of them would always ask if the other wanted anything and never asked me. Very rude.....at least talk about it softly so I can't hear, you know?

How does this birthday club thing work? Do you have to contribute money monthly to be a part of it? Who gets the bagels?

Here at my office we are growing so we are more than 12 F/T employees.

I happen to be loved by most so usually whenever someone is going somewhere they will ask if I want anything.

But they do definitely leave others out which I find to be ridiculously rude. Although, on the flip side if I am running out of the office I don't always ask everyone. And that is only because people here are cheap and never give enough $$ to cover their order so I always wind up getting screwed.

Re: Who has this type of thing going on in their office?

It wouldn't really bother me. I guess I am the oddball, but I prefer to be left to my own devices when it comes to getting food and getting involved in social stuff at work.

I have a lot of flexibility in getting out of the office during the day, though, so maybe that is why I wouldn't care if I were left out.

I also hate going somewhere with a bunch of orders and trying to figure out the money and change. I will ask the secreteries if I am going out and coming straight back, but everyone else is on their own.

We have a list of all the people on it. Basically you can either chose to bring your own stuff or have the person with their birthday before you bring it. It works out perfectly. On the day in question the people come in early to setup the tables. Only the people on the list should eat the bagels but we don't have a security guard there. So someone could take a bagel and we wouldn't even know. Oh well but it works well.

Thats very nice! I buy lunch for the whole office on their bdays. They however don't do it for me as apparently having a birthday on a National Holiday negates my bday Chat Icon

I don't think it's that bad.

some people are friends and they do things together/for each other.

If I am not really friendly with them, I wouldn't think much of it at all.

Re: Who has this type of thing going on in their office?

i don't know... it's not that weird to me. i work in a fairly small office, about 30-40 people, and there are a couple of groups that always do breakfast or lunch together, either bring in or out, but i don't see anything wrong with it - if i asked to join i know they'd be happy to have me!
