Who knows how to negotiate with car dealers?

I lease a Jeep Liberty now and it's up in September. We would get another Jeep (Maybe the Grand Cherokee)

I saw last night that they are running a special $279/ $1999 down plus taxes and title. Which is all fine with me. The thing is that I want to trade in my car now - 3 months early. When I went to a Jeep dealership a few months ago he said I would still have to pay for the months that I owe.

I know other dealerships that have bought out the remaining lease. How do I go about asking them to do this. I would rather get the car now - versus September being that I will have a newborn and really want no part of car shopping.

Any input would really help!

Thanks!

DH is a dealer, but he is not Jeep. Sorry.

However, the dealer doesn't usually buy the rest of the lease out. you are still paying for it, except they usually roll that cost into your new lease and its spreadout into however many payments you do on the new lease. Sometimes, GM will do a pull ahead program, meaning you can turn in up to 6 months early if you lease another car, and not have to pay the remaining lease payments. They don't always do this, its specials for existing lessees.

I would talk to the dealer to see if Chrysler/Jeep has a pull ahead program as opposed to them buying it out (which I explained above you are paying for it in the end).

Any other questions, feel free to ask and I'll see what DH has to say.

Have you asked if you are eligible for the pull ahead program? My DH always trades in his leased cars early and never has an issue. The German company he leases from told him he can keep doing this as long as his payments are on time and the car is "like new".
Manufacturers, such as Dodge, want to keep your business and in order to do that they have to keep you happy. Go for it and tell them what you want and that you are not going to pay extra for it.

Thanks girls! I actually just got back and they did have the pull ahead program - so I've very excited! DH will go back with me tomorrow night to check out the car.

I have a jeep. Chrysler(who owns jeep) will let you out of your lease up to 3 mos early as long as you lease another Chrysler product. Go speak to your dealer about it--they should have all the information you need. I turned mine in without an inspection too...and walked out with a new car for $20 less a month with no down payment!
