Re: who works new years DAY???

I guess it depends on your profession but I would not see it as an unreasonable thing. I fortunately am off!

he is a mechanic......

could be because a lot of cars do break down, and AAA is always open (and use them for towing).

A mechanic? I would highly doubt it.

I would call his job to see if they're open. If they weren't, I would tell him he has to get on a bus to come get them.

She sounds like she's in the same boat as my friend - caught between wanting to give her kids some sense of a father & balancing wanting to tell to screw off. I feel like she's always trying to make sure he calls her/sees her. IMO if he wants to see the kids, he should make the effort -not her.

Re: who works new years DAY???

I'm not working New Years Day but my S/O is....he manages a car wash - there is also a mechanic shop attached to it and they are open. So there will be at least 4 mechanics working that day.

Re: who works new years DAY???

Many people work holidays for overtime. A UPS driver who works Christmas night makes not only time and a half but he also will make extra for working an evening.
Police, Fire.....they all make extra for working a holiday too. I would not doubt a mechanic working to earn extra money, either.

My DH does, but he is a FDNY EMT.

Ok, I doubt that a mechanic is working. BUT DH does do some work for an auto body shop and I am sure the guy will be open to catch up on work, so maybe that is the case?
