Whole house humidifier....
is it worth it??
We have forced air heat. The house came with the humidifier but its old and no longer working. To replace with brand new is $500. Should we do it??

Re: Whole house humidifier....
I can't function properly without a humidifier. I wake up with a headache and a sore throat every morning, which is just unacceptable to me. In our small 750 sq. ft. co-op I have a 10 gallon one. Its like walking into a rain forest. I love it!!!!

Re: Whole house humidifier....
we have the same problem - so we bought a new honeywell unit at home depot and are going to try to install it ourselves. our old kenmore is not working at all.

Re: Whole house humidifier....
We had one put in our house for our downstairs zone - made a nice difference. We paid about $500 for ours - installed.

Re: Whole house humidifier....
stupid question but what is this and what does it do? are your houses/apt THAT dry that you need to add moisture to the air? i have never used a humidifier so i am not really sure of the benefits.

Re: Whole house humidifier....
they also help heat the house, so you can set the thermostat lower. If you go to sears.com, you can probably find one for less than $500.
Also, dengal mentioned that with forced air, there are humidifiers that can be attached to your unit by a professional....not sure how much though.

We have modified forced air heat - the heat gets distributed throughout the house via ducts - usually the same used for central AC. It often leads to a very dry environment. The humidifier puts moisture into the air.
