Who's had this tongue-twisting fertility test?
A hysterosalpingogram? Also known as an "HSG" test. I'm having one tomorrow to see if my tubes are open. Any experiences? If your tubes are closed, what's the next step?

feels much like a pap..take some advil an hour before and your good to go..
I had one this past monday..last year had one as well...
from what I hear you may feel a bit more uncomfortable if a tube is blocked..
lots of luck!

Re: Who's had this tongue-twisting fertility test?
I had one earlier this year.
The whole thing lasted about 5 - 10 minutes.
You get undressed from the waist down. They put the speculum in and then they tell you it's going to cramp, they inject the dye - that's when the cramping really begins.
Then they scoot you back on the table and take the images. They'll have you do one flat, have you roll to your right and left slightly and that's it.
I was able to watch the dye on the screen as they did it - it was pretty cool, if you like that kind of thing.
They take everything out, swab your cervix and give you a pad!
I took 2 Advil one hour before the test and 2 Advil 30 minutes before on the recommendation of my doc. A little crampy for the rest of the day, but I went into work.
I bled for a while after, and I would recommend bringing your own pad because theirs are from 1972. They practically had a belt.
Hope it all works out for you!!

Re: Who's had this tongue-twisting fertility test?
I had my HSG a couple of months ago and I was nervous as hell. So of course, the radiologist told me the tubes appeared to be blocked, but it could be uterine spasm. He gives me no other info. Rush Rush Rush. Long story short...they needed to see my tubes better and if they were indeed blocked, open them up. The following cycle, I had to go into LIJ for a more invasive "deluxe" HSG. I even got to take the good stuff intravenously. They tried to force the dye through the tubes. They were open. If they weren't, they would have tried to open them with a fine wire. The whole 2nd test wasn't necessary, but it was good to know for sure.
Good luck!

Re: Who's had this tongue-twisting fertility test?
I had an HSG and I experienced cramping. I hope your HSG is painless! They ended up telling me that my I have a small hydrosalphinx (water filled sack....toxic to the embryo). However, til this day, it is questionable. Arghh.
Good Luck today!

Re: Who's had this tongue-twisting fertility test?
I took 4 motrin one hr prior to having the test and felt minimal cramping. Good luck and don't be nervous. For me the anticipation was worse than the actually test.

Re: Who's had this tongue-twisting fertility test?
Just wanna thank you all so much for your input. I had the HSG and let me tell you - it hurt like friggin CRAZY!! I had sooooo much cramping. I actually cried. So my tubes must have been seriously blocked. Of course the radiologist told me nothing and I will have to wait to hear from my GYN when they send the report. Thanks again ladies. I need baby dust!!

Re: Who's had this tongue-twisting fertility test?
So Sorry! I was in pain too. At least now, it is out of the way and you are on your way to getting answers. Where you able to see the screen as they injected the Fluid? Did the radiologist not show you on the screen as they were injecting? Praying that you get a good report.

SO glad its over!! But listen, I didnt want to scare you by telling you I was in so much pain that I cried too and when they said roll over I couldnt. It was soooo painful, BUT my tubes are completly open, so the amount of pain doesnt have to mean a thing ok?

Hey thanks so much!! That's so much appreciated. I hope my tubes are open. I couldn't see on the screen at all. I had it done in the hospital and the x-ray machine was HUGE.
