Why do all the weirdos come to the public library?

So in the past week, I have had the needy patron who wants me to help him check his bank accounts online and wants to use our phone to call everyone even though he carries a cell phone, the ex-con from Riker's who is working on multiple masters degrees and wants us to do his work, the patron who casually mentioned his caseworker and his history of inappropriate sexual behavior, and finally...

the pseudo-intellectual who looks like normal in a serial killer kind of way who asked me to read his poetry and then said he was depressed and needed a drink. So he left and came back 45 minutes later reeking of alcohol and demanding to give a poetry reading in the library. Security escorted him outside where he threatened to come back with his 9mm and blow the guard's head off. They called the cops and they came but couldn't take this man away because he didn't have a gun at the time.

Gotta love the public!

I completely sympathize. The last library I worked at was right off of the LIE, so we got all kinds of wackos. At least you have security. We didn't. And forget about when I worked for NY public library. They were the weirdest ever!!!

So far it is quiet today. I am guessing that the drunk is so hungover he has forgotten there is a library in the town and the other weirdos are in the park

I work in a corporate library so I don't get this kind of drama. My friend just made the switch to a public library and I can't believe how many times she's been threatened already!

And this is at a library upstate - the nutters are all over the place!

Oh yeah, I just found out that the drunken intellectual from yesterday lives with his mother. She even came in today looking for him.

I told my boss that this guy looks normal like an unsuspecting serial killer and she said "yeah, like the nice man who lives in his mother's basement" . Now we know it is true.

Another coworker told me she was working one day when he was there with his mother and she kept calling his name across the library and he ignored her and then finally told her "Not now, Mother, I am looking at something" in a Psycho type voice.

Creepy!!
