Why do I have to provide my zip code and email
.....everytime I want to purchase something!
Does anyone else notice this new trend in the last 6 - 8 months at the mall in every single store. I mean, especially when I'm paying cash!?
They don't even ask anymore if I WANT to provide info for promtions. They basically demand you provide a zip and other various info in order to complete the sale! I just want to buy my sweater, get in and get out...I don't want to become your pen pal or a lifetime subscriber to your catalogs!
Vent over.

Ugh, I was just at the mall and I wondered the same!
I always say that my phone numbers is unlisted and I don't have e-mail.
The zip I will give.

I think the zip is for research purposes, they want to see what area of people are shopping at their store.
I've never been asked for my email and I wouldn't give it.

some stores ask for your home # to send you coupons, i don't have a problem giving out my home # or zip. i never give out my email though.

Zip is a fraud detection and prevention measure. Many merchants will decline the transaction if the billing zip provided does not match the billing zip in the AVS (address verification system) because if you don't know the billing zip, the card probably doesn't belong to you.

That's market research done by KMart and some of the bigger stores. The AVS check is done when you place orders online or over the phone or they can't read the mag stripe. I misread the question because I am a DoDo.

Just say "I prefer not to give that." They don't require it. You can say no. I always do.
