Why do maternity clothes run so big?
I ordered some stuff from the gap and i have to return it all

Most small maternity shirts don't fit me well either. I actually just went and bought a few non-maternity long sleeve shirts from the gap. I got them in medium instead of small. They fit fine and I have plenty of room to grow. I figured I would just buy maternity pants/jeans for now and stick with non-maternity shirts for awhile.

Exactly. You don't want to have to buy a whole new set of clothes towards the end. The tops are supposed to fit you throughout your pregnancy.

Its not really the tops I am having a problem with - it's the pants - they are all so huge! I think I have to stop ordering and start trying them on at the store

I hate ordering online and most of the maternity places have horrible return policies. I spent hours in the store trying on clothes. I found their pillow was somewhat helpful b/c you could get an idea how much room you had and whether the pants could last throughout the pregnancy. They may be big now if you don't have much of a belly, but I really like the Secret Fit Belly pants. They're incredibly comfortable and will last throughout the pregnancy. I have a few pairs without any panels and some of them are starting to get uncomfortable. Hope you have more luck with clothes soon.

I wouldn't return them. I remember when I first tried on maternity pants and they were HUGE. Now some of them barely fit anymore.

I h ad to return Gap and old navy maternity too and there was NO WAY I would grow into them- I kept 1 pair of shorts just to see and with 4 weeks away you can still fit 2 of me in those shorts!!!
return them and go to motherhood- they are right on with the sizes.

For me the maternity pants are huge, but two of the pants I can roll down and they fit much better. One that I just got from Old Navy, will probably get taken in a bit at the cleaners and I will let it back out when I need the room. Trust me I bought some smalls and they fit me fine, however I know for a fat they wont fit in a few more weeks.
