Why do people leave concerts early?
I figure they are trying to "beat" traffic but what's the point?
I don't understand why people spend money on a ticket, endure long lines, sit through sometimes bad opening acts and then leave when the band they came to see is on. I see it all the time as soon as the first set is done people take off. They miss the encore and the big finish usually these are the best part.
Did anyone else notice this?
I refuse to leave until the house lights come on. I want to know I saw every single second of live music possible.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?
if they are 8 months pregnant and can't wait another second to pee, that might be a valid reason
but otherwise, no, i won't leave until the bitter end

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?
I ALWAYS wait until the house lights come on !! As much as I hate getting stuck in the parking lot and then sitting in traffic, leaving early just isn't worth it to me......especially if I've paid a lot for the tickets !! I want my money's worth !!

I don't understand it either.
Two friends went to the Friday night Billy Joel concert and left early - missed the whole Paul McCartney encore.
I was almost pi$$ed at them because I would have killed to see that and they were worried about traffic.

I have absolutely no clue. If I'm going to spend good money on a concert ticket then I want to be sure I get to see every last second of the show.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?
I went to see REM once and they were so pathetically boring that we left early and went out to dinner!
Sometimes if you leave early, you can get a taxi rather than waiting in a taxi rank for an hour with some drunk youths.
I went to see the Eels once and the house lights came on, most people left, and the band came out and played another short set. It was fab.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?
I left a concert early recently because i was 6 mos pregnant and couldnt get comfortable in those small hard seats, plus the moron behind me kept singing along to every song and I would have punched him if I didn't leave!

For games it's easier to ditch the last inning/quarter if the game isn't interesting anymore. If there is a huge lead, your team is getting a monstrous beat-down, etc., sometimes the pleasure of beating traffic is better than sitting through the rest of the game.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?
I never ever left a concert early. I don't want to miss a thing!!
However, if I were at a Yankee game and they were losing 14-2 in the 8th inning, I would definitely get a jump on traffic.

Maybe they're not enjoying the show, maybe they're bored, maybe they just don't feel like sitting anymore...........

Also, some people don't like the crowds and pusing to get out of a building in a big crowd, thats quite scary sometimes.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?
yeah i don't understand the leaving so early either. unless you are physically in discomfort/pain (pregnant, injury, sick, etc.) i think its so odd to leave when you know the main band that you came to see is still going strong!
i always stay as long as possible.
when i went to see linkin park weeks back--they finished their show and people started leaving. i was thinking "they HAVE to do an encore--this is the first time they've been at MSG--just be patient people!" and sure enough they did--and they brought out Jay-Z---i was so happy I didn't leave.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?
We've done this a couple of times. Especially if we are at a concert at MSG. There is one particular train if we miss, we have to wait nearly 2 hours for the next one.
Last week, we went to see Springsteen at Giants Stadium, and I was miserable. I don't care for him to begin with and I was in a mood when we got there after it took us 2 hours to get there (I only live 20 minutes away). I was hot and nauseus (I'm pregnant) We had floor seats near the stage too. Technically we didn't leave early, but we did leave our seats at the beginning of the last song in the encore and watched from the exit so we can get out of there quickly and not have to wait on a long long line for the shuttle back to the parking lot where we were parked.

I hate crowds and at times get full on anxiety attacks if there are too many people for my liking

We have perfected this to a science!
We don't leave "early" to anything but for Friday night Billy Joel -- yeah, we "left our seats" at the last song, and sang our way down the flight of stairs and then watched "the end"....and ran for our car and got home in record time.
For the last Billy concert at MSG, we did the same and got onto the train and scored the first one out.
I wouldn't leave half way through...but I also don't want to sit in traffic to see 30 more seconds. My ticket, my choice.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?
it really depends who it is. I went to see Pearl Jam (mind you I am preggo though) and I left early. I think if the concert is not as good as i thought I will leave early yeah I spent the money but I wont do it again.

I will be leaving the Police concert early tonight...we rather miss a few mins than deal with the chaos in the parking lot or on the staircases.

I left a concert early once in DC because on weeknights the metro doesn't run late. It sucked!

Sometimes I get free tickets to go and I'm not really into the artist....also, if I think they are doing a crappy job I leave early.

So many artists come out for an encore. Why would I leave early for that?

I never leave a ball game or a concert early. The mets could be losing 20-0, and I won't leave until that final out.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?
Unless they really suck, I don't want to leave early BUT... years ago, I left early, with the same person, 2 different shows. Once at Jones beach, she said she had to use the bathroom....long story short, security comes and finds me to tell me she had passed out and is in the first aid room. Another time, at the Z100 jingle ball- the show was super delayed and she had to catch the train back... I felt bad and left with her but left my other friend to watch the rest of the show alone.
