DH and I left the Billy Joel concert early. We were in right field and couldnt see the stage...couldnt see the screen, and by the time the music got to our ears there was an echo. The seats were so uncomfortable that after an hour we looked at each other and realized it just wasnt worth it. I was very dissapointedChat Icon

Claustrophobia. Not enough to keep you from the concert but enough to make missing one song worth it, to avoid being herded like cattle out to the parking lot and then dealing with traffic congestion on top of it.

It's good many of you don't have this problem. But for those of us who do, it can ruin the experience.

I'm also one of those people who sit in the movie theatre after the credits, waiting for everyone else to leave.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?

I NEVER EVER, leave a concert early. I love concerts, and I can't imagine leaving early.

I don't mind others leaving early, but what makes me crazy and this happened last night at the police show.

If you want to leave fine, but please don't get up in the middle of a song and try to leave from the middle of the row. I just think it's rude to make everyone move in the middle of a song. I am trying to enjoy the show. I want to see the encore, I don't want to get up to let you out so you can beat traffic. Do it in between songs.

Ok, rant over!

I do both.. i've left concerts early if the band sucks and i'm bored. Its my money, if i want to waste it, i can Chat Icon
I've usually seen most bands i like many many times so i feel i'm not missing out on too much if i leave early. However, the venues are usually general admission so i'm not interrupting anyone in any seats by leaving early.
But in general, i stay until the end if its someone I enjoy (why else would i see a band?)

Sporting events - well, i don't really like any sports other than baseball, so if i can leave early to beat the traffic i will. However, baseball games i will stay until the end because you never know whats going to happen, and you should support your team!
The only time i've left early is to catch a train (if next one is hours off and its a weeknight), or if i've been sick.

DH & I are of the same thought. Concerts/sporting events/heck, even MOVIES are so expensive now - we're staying until the last out is gotten, the last note has been played, etc.

We are usually the ones who have to be shooed out of the arena by the ushers.. :)

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?

If the game or concert is really good then I won't leave, but sometimes they aren't, the game is a blowout or the concert a dud, so I just don't feel its worth staying and being caught in the prime traffic.

Re: Why do people leave concerts early?

Maybe they knew the set list and didn't want to hear the last song? I could never do it...I sat through and AWFUL David Bowie concert waiting for it to get better and it never did. I saw half the stadium leave, but couldn't do it. (I love DB, but he played ONLY his new album (at the time) and it had just been released the day before - therefore, I only knew one song from the radio)

I saw the Police last night with a 5 month pregnant woman and I knew the set list and she did debate about leaving one song early to get down the stairs safely and to the bathroom (she ended up staying though). Another time, friends of our left early, b/c they had a babysitter and it was the choice of getting a train or waiting an extra hour and a half.

I don't mind sitting in traffic or wading through the crowds, but I know it can get to some people. Part of the concert fun, for me, is to listen to what everyone is saying int he stariwells about the show.
