WHY does this kid refuse afternoon naps
I had to wake him from his morning nap bc I had something to do with work.
He has been up - wide awake - since 9:20 this morning.
I'm exhausted. He's not.
I put him in the crib for over an hour. He did everything but fall asleep.
I don't think I can last another three hours.
WHEN should his afternoon nap be - if he is normally napping at around 9am for an hour and a half? Am I missing my window here?

Lily used to go down at around 9-9:30 and again anytime between 2:30-4. 4 was kinda late though.

Re: WHY does this kid refuse afternoon naps
When DD1 was ready to give up her am nap, she started to refuse the pm nap. I slowly moved her nap time up and made it one long nap.

Emma hasn't taken an afternoon nap in months. Maybe he just doesn't really need one, they do grow out of it unfortunately!

Re: WHY does this kid refuse afternoon naps
IF we're home and she's on a normal schedule, she will usually nap for about an hour anywhere from 9am-10am...then, she'll go down again anywhere from 1-3pm for half an hour.
If we're out & about, everything flies out the window and I never know when she'll sleep.
Sounds like he got to overtired status today maybe and is refusing to nap?

Re: WHY does this kid refuse afternoon naps
I just went to feed him - he was miserable. i took him out to go play - he wouldn't let me put him down.
I brought him right up to his crib - and I believe he is sleeping now
This should be interesting being that he goes to bed in two hours and hasn't even eaten dinner yet.

Re: WHY does this kid refuse afternoon naps
If he isn't crying leave him. If you keep putting him in their at the same he will eventually fall asleep. DS would be in his crib sometimes up to an hour and half and then just give up and fall asleep.

Is this just today ? A one time thing or a current occurence?

I want to say the last two weeks or so - no nap in the afternoon.
He may fall asleep in the car on the way home - or randomly if we are out running around in the morning he'll nap in the afternoon - but hardly ever - and def. not on a consistent basis.
Today he napped till 5:20 so we just put him to bed now. Now - I pray he sleeps past 5:15 tomorrow morning!

Re: WHY does this kid refuse afternoon naps
he might be growing out of it. It happens, but how to avoid the sleepy afternoons? What about trying to push teh morning nap up more and maybe it will last longer?
I really dont know

Re: WHY does this kid refuse afternoon naps
If he is outgrowing his afternoon nap which is also possible then I would move his morning nap a hour later. So now it turns into a mid morning and then maybe eventually move it to around 11. You might get a longer nap like that. For DS I know I will get a 2 hour if it before 1pm, anything after and it is only half hour.

I agree. He's probably outgrowing his afternoon nap, so I'd make his morning nap later. Thomas usually naps 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. most days.

Re: WHY does this kid refuse afternoon naps
Probably time for one nap. It took me a while to figure out what time worked for DD, but we settled on 1pm. She would still look for her morning nap, but if I put her down at 10am she'd only sleep an hour and that would be it for the day (making the afternoon very long and cranky.)
We had to work hard to keep her awake, but after a couple of weeks she settled in and does about 2 hours (1pm - 3pm)

Christopher hasn't taken an afternoon nap in months either.
Maybe you should move his morning nap later and bedtime a little later?

Re: WHY does this kid refuse afternoon naps
The problem with moving his morning nap is this - originally it was later - started at 10-10:30 -- he would only sleep for a half hour.
Now that it's earlier I can get a good hour-hour and a half.
I see these kids that nap for two plus hours and I think I would just fall on the floor and pass out! He would never!!!!
