Why don't I have this kind of luck?
Someone I know, just graduated with their undergrad walks into the first school to put there resume in gets an interview and gets the job, no demo.
How in the world is that fair? I have experience and still nothing.
Brings new meaning to the right place at the right time.
I wish something like that would happen to me. And for many of you ladies that are in the same boat as me.

Re: Why don't I have this kind of luck?
I had 13 interviews before I got to my school. My school was the perfect fit for me and I am so much happier there than I would have been in the other 13 districts. It just works out the way it is meant to be.
I remember that time as being so stressful. Stay positive and remember soooo many people get hired in August and even through Labor Day. I interviewed on August 1 for my job.
Good luck

OMG! That is crazy! Almost unheard of. Just hang in there. I know this is a really hard thing to go through. But the summer isn't over and you still have a shot at getting a position. You have experience and most principals will appreciate that. Good luck to you!

Re: Why don't I have this kind of luck?
Ugh...I remember those days. When I was subbing 5 years ago, there was a girl who fell into a long term sub position when the teacher she was in for died unexpectedly.
The principal offered her the job permanently since she was in the school with the class already- she turned it down!!!!!!!!!!! She decided she didn't want to teach and got a job in town goverment being a receptionist or something....
Why do some people seem to just fall into things like that? It made me crazy!

With over 12 years of experience teaching Special Education in a Psychiatric Day Treatment Center, I am well aware that I would be less desirable than a recent college or grad school graduate. I would command a much higher salary. In other words, I would cost a district too much. Why hire me, when they can hire someone for thousands less?

Re: Why don't I have this kind of luck?
I know but i hear so many of these "luck" stories its just not fair.
A girl I student taught with got a job at the school because the principal saw her visiting her old class and thought that was sweet. I visited more than she did but I never got a shot like that.
Maybe I'm just being a lil whiny but I've never had things in life handed to me I always had to work hard. Once i'd like it if the perfect job just literally fell into my lap without multiple interviews and long waiting time period.

Very true, but why then do school districts prefer u have experience? I understand you have 12 years but come on, wouldnt you rather hire someone who knows what they are doing? Isn't quality important anymore?
Its all so frustrating and I feel like I'm lost in a sea of contradictions when I go on interviews.

Re: Why don't I have this kind of luck?
I wish you the best of luck in your job search! Last summer I was in your predicament due to moving so I can definitely understand where you are coming from.
I feel like in regards to experience it really depends on the district. Some schools by me will not hire you unless you have like 5 years experience. The only exceptions I have seen are if you know someone (political) or if you student taught there.

Re: Why don't I have this kind of luck?
I interviewed all summer and nothing. 3 days before teachers were to report I got a call for an interview. They interviewed me the next day and I was hired on the spot. I love my school and wouldn't trade it for anything. You'll find something you like!

Re: Why don't I have this kind of luck?
I met a very young "special area" teacher, in a top notch school district that is very political VERY hard to get into.
she drove from 10 hours away for the interview, said it was a VERY casual interview with one person and she got the job on the spot...
I was happy for her. right place at the right time I guess. but it does make you
