Why I am not doing Secret Santa with my students.
1. Regifting of stuffed animals that appear to have been around since the Clinton/Gore years.
2. Sneaky kids who are unable to get gifts for their recipient, and instead of telling me, decide to pull a fast one and get a gift without giving one. Last year, one of my girls couldn't get a gift for her recipient. So she wrote a note that said this: I don't have a gift for you but here's something better: my wish for you to have a nice holiday. That's better than any present. I would have admired her political skills if I wasn't so annoyed, and of course the girl who got that note came to me crying. 
3. Do I NEED a number 3?

I totally agree! my kids keep asking me why we can't do one. I explained to them that someone inevitably ends up unhappy. There is always the "I have this already" kid, or the "This is for babies" kid, or my personal favorite, the "Can I trade, this is ugly. I dont like it." kid. 
We are doing a cookie swap instead.

I remember when I was in grade school, a teacher did a grab bag.
Whoever put a gift in was able to take a gift out. (of course, if someone picked their own gift, they had to pick again)
But, that was pretty cool!

But, that was pretty cool!
I loved those, and I suggested it, but they weren't interested. 
I like the cookie swap idea.
